Only in Wacked-Out California ....

Like it says, only in wacked-out California would a state senator chase after a ROCK for political correctness. Serpentine must be eliminated from designation as the state rock.  :slap:

Serpentine needs to censored! Outlaw the ROCK! Cannot make the crap up. The PC-holes stay up late at night with the lawyers, high on dope (medical variety only), dreaming up new evils in order to make Californians feel better.

Political correctness censors the rock. And the nanny state is certain we citizens will FEEL BETTER. Bad ROCK.  :smilielol: :smilielol:

It makes sense to me that CA would make a big deal out of a rock, I mean after all, the "Pet Rock" originated in CA.

What Dan & Bull said!

After the "Pet Rock" invention here in "our state is broke" land, all the Pet Rocks went to Sacto and got elected to political office.............and they're still as dumb as rocks. But wait there's more! Now we have Pelosi's sister from hell, Meg Whitman, shamelessly buying the office of Governor. And the sheep of Kalifornication are actually buying this! W   T   F?

Yeah John I'm confused, especially because your state is my state. :shruggy:

The reason I posted this is because of the insanity of the politicians' motivation. It is to make us feel better. I have no feelings good or bad about the rock. It is the politician, on behalf of the nanny state, that has bad feelings about the rock.

We can all agree that cancer and death is bad. I just don't see that censoring the rock does anything for the problem.

She, the state senator, is wacked-out. She represents (what a word  :o :o) the CA Senate District 24, which is East LA, to El Monte, to La Puenta.  :sarcasmalert: There's no employment problems in her district, no crime, no poor roads, no lack of recreation for kids, no HS dropouts, no teen pregnancy, everything is so fine in her district that all that is left to accomplich is to get us all to feel good by censoring the bad rock. Gloria Romero is wacked-out.  :Twocents:

Funny you bring that up. I would have no objections. But the nanny state will soon have to get a ban on the state flower, which is the California Poppy. After all it is a relative of the opium poppy. To feel better about ourselves the politicians will have to censor the poppy.  :brickwall:

Had to share this additional item. There's an old movement still on-going to declare poison oak as the CA state plant. Just down the road from me will be the 28th annual Poison Oak Show, in Columbia, this September.  :coocoo: Check it out.

speaking of our state's fine bureaucracy....so evidently I have to get the '74 smogged to get it back on the road. sure, according to the law it doesn't need to be smogged because it's older than a 76 model, but according to the fine folks at the DMV, the smog check that was due in '04 is "still pending". Really? I don't get how you can understand the logic of something so completely void of logic and reason. Has there been, and is there any danger of, school kids getting lung damage from serpentine? Do the teachers make the kids pound the rocks into dust and then breathe it in? Serpentine doesn't even contain asbestos 100% of the time so how many serpentine rocks would each kid have to beat into dust and breathe in for there to be any hint of a problem? Sen. Romero is a fool and her campaign is a foolish waste of time, resources and money.

Now there's a good idea, use all the retired aircraft carriers to house the homeless. Bids can be accepted to dredge shallow waterways, or even dig canals to places that have no water fronts at all. Think about how many jobs that would be created by handing out thousands of shovels to people so they can dig a really long, really deep trench to a bunch of states in the Midwest from one of the coasts.

And minerals never get broken open like when the rock is crushed to surface roads? There was a big flap near me (El Dorado Hills, CA) when it was discovered that the area of a large yuppie enclave of mansions (Serrano) was riddled with serpentine and the grading necessary to prepare the pads had released fibers into the air. And tests showed the surface of the whole area had high asbestos consentrations from years of construction grading.

On a side note, I was driving a dump truck in that very same subdivision and many drivers complained about how the contractors weren't watering the area to keep the dust down, my truck had A/C so I kept the windows up and wasn't driving around with a dust-covered dash like the low buck guys.

There's quite a bit more going on here than meets the eye.  Yes, on the surface, this is entirely crazy, but do a little bit of digging, and you'll see what's behind it.

Although sponsored by Gloria Romero (who is an idiot in her own right), the language that actually made it into the bill was provided by a group called The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (http://www.asbestosdiseaseawareness.org/).  Guess who the group's main sponsors are?  Trial lawyers, who have been shaking people down for asbestos-related diseases for years.  (http://www.asbestosdiseaseawareness.org/2010-adao-sponsors/)

So, it's not a crazy law for the trial lawyers, in that it would increase the opportunities for them to take people to court for naturally occurring serpentine that exists on their land, without affording them the sympathy that comes from the protection of a "California state rock."

Cynical, yes.  Disingenuous, yes.  Counterproductive, yes.  Crazy?  Well, maybe crazy like a fox.
