a guy here in kentucky tells me out of his manual that i should : have the car in netural , unplug the spark advance , idle speed at 750 , and time to 10 degree beforeTDC,,  for my 440 engine ,,, if this is right is it still the same  if i am using a bigger cam ?

I have yet to play with the big block mopars, but have a lot with small block fords. Once you start changing cam, heads the more initial is required. The more radical the combination the more initial required. Some guys run their timing locked out at 34,36 whatever degress total timing all the time. With locked out timing usually you need an ignition box with a timing retard to start it when hot, or ground out the coil with a switch untill you get the starter going then send power to the coil.

440 is still a 4 stroke engine, so i don't see why it would be different.

My last 351W was 475hp N/A. Victor Jr heads, intake 750 HP 600 lift cam 250 @ .050 duration. To get a good idle i had to bump it to minimum 16 degrees initial.

Most stock engines are 10-12 initial. If you have a larger cam, carb ect. Bump it up to 14 initial and then tune the carb for highest vacuum @ idle.

When i tried tuning the 4 corner idle on a 750hp at 12 initial it was just fat and rough. Bumping the initial made a big difference in getting a more consistent idle and higher vacuum.

Depending on cam specs I'd think it would be hard to get a good idle @ 750 rpm and 10 deg initial.
