I got a few extra doors with my 69 Charger. One has an exterior door handle with a black button and the other has a chrome button. What's the story with the different color buttons? I always thought that the black buttons were used in '68. Which is correct for a 69 built in St. Louis?

my understanding is that the early build cars had black buttons till they used them up and they were replaced with the chrome ones...  :shruggy: what's the numbers on your Promising new Steed?..

The production date off the fender tag is Oct.18,1968 (A18). Is that considered an early build?

Brock,
Are you figuring that the black buttons would be correct for my car? Any clue approx. what date they ran out of black buttoned handles?

no idea when they ran out,.. but I own a very late build '69 - built the last week of production in July of '69...  :shruggy: Can you post up your fender tag?..  :popcrn:

66FBCharger

Brock,
Here is my fender tag.
I whited out the last 3 of the VIN and order number. I am not sure why everyone does that, but I figured there was a reason to do it that I am not aware of. Do you know if there is a good reason to not show the whole VIN?

I know most of the 69 charger 500 had black ones , you might ask danny if he has narrowed down a date split  ?

I thought the 500s were converted, (some of them anyhow),.. and were run back to Creative for nose and wing and fender duct upgrades... and there was a whole lot of funny business with the counting and even pre 500 Racecars being upgraded to 500 and then to DAYTONA status... though, not necessarily at Creative.  :shruggy: I know that 503 Cars being built was entirely bogus, was there ever a ballpark figure calculated for Aero-Charger production?..

I thought the 503# was bogus for C500s (392?), but then they had to do 500+ Daytonas.

perhaps also the plant where your car was produced made a difference as well possibly maybe  :scratchchin:

jaak

My car was built 8-8-68...Black door handle buttons,no headrest, and it also had the chrome (68) shifter knob.
