2843992-2 on the driver's side manifold. What's the -2 for?

I was trying to look up the number on my driver's side exhaust manifold and I saw listings for the 2843992 manifolds but mine has -2 at the end. What's that for?

I think it means it took 2 castings to make the manifold

I was always told that the - number after the casting number was the revision of the casting.  Say they used one casting and found a flaw with it, they then did a -2 after the casting number on the new casting to designate which casting it came from.

Great info!  Is there a list of parts that have been re-casted?  You would never know if you got a flawed version if you had this manifold that read 2843992.

It could have been a variety of reasons that they changed or revised the castings.  I was just using "a flaw" as really an example and I should have been a little more clear.  I will use another example.  Carter carburetors had the part number for example 4615S which lets say breaks down to a 383 4 bbl 4 spd car for 1969 b bodys.  After Jan of 1969, they had a revision and did away with a left handed thread mixture screw and replaced that with two right hand threaded screws lower on the base.  To designate the revision, they now added an "A" to the end of 4615S making it 4615SA.

Another example for the logic behind a casting having a different suffix number could be that the original after so many castings, either wore down or got damaged causing them to remake a cast of the original.  There are numerous possibilities as to why things were recast or revised and without seeing a TSB on it, one can only speculate at this time.
