steering gear and arm question need answer please

With my pitman arm on should the nut that holds it on to the steering gear should it be flush with the steering gear shaft? right now it is flush and there is about a 1/2 of an inch of the spline showing between the box and the pitman arm is this correct or should my pitman arm be up against the box thank  you  tom

You should be fine as long as the nut is torqued to specs. Mine barely shows one thread.
