i have a 73 charger w/ 318 guy cut all the wires from firewall and dash and then gave up. I now have the car and purchased a painless wiring harness and im in the process of installing it.i got the car running and charging great but it wouldnt shut off. It has an msd ignition box aftermarket coil and wires and im using the original ignition switch which the guy cut all the wires to (idiot). I was trying to install a diode into the charging system to fix my run on problem and when i did the car would just crank and crak and not start. Now i have no spark no power coming out of my ignition box and i performed a jump test at the coil and couldnt get it to produce a spark. its getting fuel but no spark. it has an electronic voltage regulator, a regular alternator NOT a high-output one im super confused anything would help

Most of the aftermarket wiring kits don't take into account the fact that Mopar ignition switches have two ignition systems, IGN1 (RUN) and IGN2 (START).  IGN1 is powered only in RUN but shuts off in START and IGN2 is powered only in START and shuts off in RUN.

In order to run an aftermarket ignition like the MSD you need to marry the two systems, the wire colors are usually dark blue and brown...simply splice these together and run them to the small red wire on the MSD.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

ok sweet, what i did was run a switched 12v source to the little red wire and got the car to shut off fine. I will try what u suggest tomorrow, but do u think what i did would hurt or damage my msd box in any way.i had an old 6al on the car and got it to run finebut woulodnt shut off and then it took a crap so i bought a new msd 6a and the car runs fine with the switch that i installed.thank you for your help i will let u kno what happens
