71 b-body charger

Ok well I'm 15 and I got a 71 charger from my step dad and I'm trying to restore it! Not easy, but the car is a B body with a 318 auto transmition and it's got all original stuff according to the guy we bought it from 4 years ago. The ralley dash says charger 500 on it and I need to know why!!
Thanks, Andrew

Well...either the dash plate has been switched out or its a 500 model.  :icon_smile_big:

That is a good bet. Its probably just a '71 500. Its just a certain model of Charger such as the SE and R/T. I'm 19, so I can relate to being a young Charger owner.  :2thumbs:

The 500 was a cosmetic package.

Drache it has all of those and the d is cracked so is there a way to get a new dash for the 500 or no?

Could be a 500, post the tag info and we'll decode it. Or it could just have the wrong name plate on the dash, I have a '73 Rallye Charger, but it does say Charger SE on the dash plate, also has one taillight and housing (left side) off of a Charger SE, previous owner must have raided an SE for parts.

You don't need a dash specifically for a 500. The panel with the emblem on it comes off, so any dash from 1971-1974 will fit. If the emblem is good you can swap it to the new dash. If it isn't, I believe you can buy them new. You can buy reproductions of the dash, but do a search on this forum to find out which ones are good. Good luck with your restoration and post photos of it. We love photos!

Several sources for new dash pads, not cheap, around $500.00 for the dash pad. Then the fun of replacing it.
