Who goes to a car show to look at new Challengers ?

At a show last week a new Camaro showed up (late), had just taken the window sticker off.  :smilielol: Parked next to a stunning 36 Packard and the Camaro lady proceeded to strut around and talk up her Brand X to be certain everyone knew it was hers. The Packard folks just sort of grinned.

I don't mind new Challengers at car shows if they are in their own class.  I don't believe newer cars and older cars belong in the same classes. :rotz:

A lot of them are car guys just like us who are proud of their rides and some of them have done some pretty cool stuff to them - supercharged engines, custom built suspensions, etc. At the other end of the spectrum are the guys that as soon as they bought the car were convinced that it was some sort of investment and don't drive it or touch it (except to the occasional show).They talk about "the HEMI Challenger" as if it was a 1971 HEMI Challenger. I know of a guy that keeps his SRT-8 in a climate controlled garage under a car cover, and with individual tire/wheel covers. So naturally they show up at the show and see themselves in the same league as the classic cars.

I sorta agree. I understand they (New Challenger owners) wanna show off their new ride, but I think it has no place there. I'm not rude or say anything negative about it, just walk pass them, to check out what I'm there for..... classic rides.

There are a lot of new Challengers that come to the local cruise night but one thing i do notice is that they kinda group themselves together in one area which i don't see a problem with. Afterall they are car people too.

  Well... Sunday in Saugerties there was a lot full of new Challengers.    But I didn't hear any of them winning any top 50 trophies.   If they want to display their checkbook cars and donate to the cause I don't see any reason to stop them.  

  The town Dodge dealer puts on the show and if people buy a Chally and want to put it in the show for a donation...  Oh well.     Same with the Camaros.    Friend of mine gave the Dodge dealer owner his car show registration and $20 fee after he bought his '10 Camaro at the owner's Chevy dealer the next town up  :shruggy:

I don't have a problem with these cars being in shows.  I have finished behind new cars at several shows.  I try to remember it's about the hobby, not the class or awards.  It is good these people feel good enough about there cars to show them.  Some people have nice classic cars that never leave the garage, you don't see them at shows or cruizes.  I feel we need to get them out there to be seen to promote the hobby.

Hanging out on the LX forum you see real quick they spend just as much money on the rides as we do.  Hell, a lot of them are only weekend cruisers.

They're car folks just like us, just different in what years make them happy.  I didn't make it up on top of the hill @ Carlisle but my buddy said there had to be at least 300 of them up there.   :o

I'd rather look at them at a show than a dealership where some greasy haired salesman is breathing down on top of me.   :Twocents:

Thank goodness we have these new cars as an alternative to ricers and a way to get kids now a days involved and interested in old muscle also.   :Twocents: :Twocents:

These newcomers to shows are what is helping Carlisle set their show attendance records.... without the Challengers, Chagnums, and PT Cruisers, the attendance would actually have dropped. The area by the dyno was filled with Challengers this year.

I don't really care. But at my show they are in the "Showroom class "  They shouldn't be in with the muscle cars. But if they pay , they can show. We shouldn't discourage anyone .  :Twocents:

Yeah, in that sense its a good thing. At the last Spring Fling in April we had 37 new challengers and about 15 LX's.  The Challengers were one of the biggest classes (if not THE biggest) at the show.  :yesnod:

When I was active with the Seattle Mopar club I always thought it was a good idea to get the Neon & Durango guys involved... helps the show out and the club

No issues here...bring them on.  As several have stated this was great for the brand and Mopar clubs alike...remember, a lot of folks with new Challengers have old Mopars as well.

I go to car shows to look at Mopars...brand x does nothing for me  :Twocents:

I am not a big show guy...don't like to spend 3/4 the day by my car...rather be driving it...anyway..I have several classics 1) 69 Camaro SS, 2) 67 Corvette, and 3) 69 Charger (currently in the shop becoming a General Lee).  I cruise to a few shows a year with a group of guys and since my son was born instead of taking my Camaro (which gets crazy attention) I've been taking the Challenger SRT because its got A/C and its safe enough for me to cart around my 1 year old.  At first I just went to go along with the guys with my son with no intention of "showing it"...What I found interesting is that my Challenger got tons of attention.  In fact several of my buddies mentioned how excited they were I left the Camaro at home in hopes that thier cars would get some real attention but several crowds formed around the Challenger.  Their cars are really nice too...rare and amazing restorations but the average person doesn't know or understand that anyway.
Sure my Challenger has some work done to it but I think the new Challengers are rare enough (you don't see them like the new Mustangs and Camaros) and the retro styling is so strong that I think it fits in at car shows.  I had to convince an old guy that my Challenger was NEW..he was telling his wife he had one back in tha day...HAHA...he almost tried to disagree with me then he saw the interior, realized it wasn't his old car and said WOW that looks just like the old one....

I get the pick it up at the dealership and take it to the car show comment...I just let the people decide...If you take it to the car show and people crowd around to look at it as they would for a Viper, ZR-1, GTR, etc...then why not.  The nice part is if it rains...I don't care....haha

I'd much rather see new Challengers at a Mopar show than some chromed out PT Cruisers or 06+ "Chargers" with 22" wheels and pearl coat. 

And the amount of money that's been dumped into a car really has little to do with it IMO. To me it's more about nostalgia. Also, just about anyone with a decent credit rating can roll a new car off the lot and start dumping bling money into it without having to know how to change their own oil. That said, most guys who own classic iron have paid their dues by going through a little hardship. A guys whose first muscle car was a 2010 Challenger did not have to dig through bins of rusty junk to find a specific bracket or pulley, or worry about whether cam cores or .040 over pistons would be available for his engine rebuild, or put his entire project on hold waiting for a backordered part to be produced, or crawl underneath it to scrape undercoating or do a drum to disc brake swap. There is a difference.

Not to be a smart a** but are we saying that only old guys that are familiar with 40 year old cars should go to car shows?  That will take a huge chuck out of attendance.  Forget about the future of the sport (if we can call it that).  I thought car shows were for car guys and gals to enjoy them...Agree with the PT Cruisers though...they aren't gearheads....haha.....I'll let the rich Viper guys in with the hopes they'll let me drive it!!!
