Ok guys, I've run into alittle problem swapping the steering box on my 69 RR clone. First off I went with a rebuilt carquest unit I know everyone likes the firmfeel ones but with a home purchase in the near future this was better budget Fit. Now for the problems!! I picked up the new one and after a quick visual inspection it seemed to look good so I went ahead and installed it. The installation went pretty smooth until i went to put the pitman arm on and the splines on the gearbox were larger then the splines on the pitman arm. After alittle research i find that carquest had sold me a FULL size gearbox which is identical except for the spline size on the pitman arm. Looking for solutions I find that if I get the full size pitman arm that matches the splines and it should bolt up and everyone will be happy....at least so i thought. Well the full size arm does fit on the full size box, however the full size arm does not fit into the tie rod!! :brickwall:

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? What possible solutions do I have to fix this problem? Here are some pictures of the two pitman arms.. Did i mention that the 100 full size pitman arm is NOT returnable.  :flame:

I'm thinking that the Moog K7076 should be the correct pitman arm for the large sector shaft box and fit into your tie rod.  What brand pitman arm and part number is the one you bought that won't work?

Thanks TylerCharger69!, the new pitman arm is also a carquest part. Part #RP20116

I think in 73 on up they have the larger splines on the gear box. The solution though not cheap would be to get a firm feel pit man arm they recommend. Not sure if this will help but http://firmfeel.com/fastrati.htm

They gave you the wrong arm for your car they should take it back  even if you had them order it.   :Twocents:  What does it fit?
