Am I the only one who thinks the "new" mustang is ugly and boring looking?

Besides mustanghater, is there anyone on this board who doesn't like the new mustang appearance wise?  Personally, I didn't like them back in the day, so I don't know why I would like a reincarnated version.  Just curious because of all the "why couldn't dodge do what ford did" kinda comments all the time.  Just my opinion.  SORRY IF I"M BEATING A DEAD HORSE!

The only thing I really like about the new mustangs is at least they took some styling from the old ones unlike what they did with the so called new "charger"

I agree. At least now that I've seen the car in real life.
The ad pictures made it look amazing.
In the full light of the day, it loses a lot of it's appeal.
Some of those retro cues start to look bolted on, IMO. Once you start to look at elements of the design, the overall look starts to fall apart.

As for the supposed retro cues on the new Charger - they simply got it wrong.
Regardless of the number of doors, the look does not say Charger as much as it says Challenger or even 'CUDA - and even then it's a stretch.

The actual car itself is pretty impressive - not exactly stylish, but impressive when everything is considered. The performance options bring the score up considerably.
If I were in the market for a new car, I'd have a hard time not considering it.
However, I'd have to have the badges removed - just based purely on principle.

I like most of the new Mustang's look, except the taillights & rear bumper area. The lenses are too big & the bumper too massive.

Otherwise, I love it & would snap one up in 10 seconds if I could afford one.
I'll take a black GT coupe, please. :icon_smile_big:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I really like them.

If I were in the market for a car of this type I would buy a Mustang.   Lots of others are apaarently liking them also.

Personally, I do like the lines of the 67-68 fastbacks, and the '69-70 fastbacks are tolerable as well.   Heresy, I know - but at least I don't own one and probably won't unless I get handed the title.

The '64-'66 and '71+ are a waste of good sheet metal in my opinion.   That's just me though - to each his own.

I'm not alone in that opinion though.   Phord thought enough of that specific era's look to incorporate it into their retro design.   To me, they won't be able to mimic the lines of any other Mustang period and improve the looks of their car.

Let's not forget that a lot of people like(d) the fox body mustang as well.   That doesn't make them any less of a POS, does it?   I haven't driven the thing, so I can't speak about the performance.   From an asthetic (sp?) point of view, it's just as ugly, if not uglier than the magnum sedan.

I've never been too excited about the Mustang look but I wouldn't say it's ugly. The '06 Chagnum OTH, holy crap.  :-X :puke:

Compared to the classic Charger or the '99 Charger concept, the new Mustang looks ugly.  Compared to other classic muscle cars, the new Mustang looks "okay."  Compared to all other new cars currently on the market, the Mustang looks "friggin' sweet!"

guess what my opinion is.......

I'm glad you like the car and I don't have any issues with people liking it.  My only point in starting the topic was to see if I was the only one who doesn't like the thing appearance wise.  I'm guessing my main issue is the original is better looking, much like the retro thunderbird.  Your charger rocks!

the new "Collectable Automobile" magazine has an article on the design of the new Mustang and compares it with the '67-70 versions, most suprising of all though is one picture a clay mock-up for a '67 Mustang that looks EXACTLY like a 1971 Pontiac Firebird Esprit,..   :o not just close but a dead on copy!...   makes ya wonder...

My sentiments exactly.... in comparison to our classics,. However, for what is currently on the market in production today, it's the best that anyone has to offer.

I think that is the sweetest musclecar to come out of Detroit since the early 1970's.  None of the other renamed cars that are being produced (GTO, Charger etc) even come close to being as true to it's roots as the new Mustang.  Performance wise they have all the originals did plus get 17 MPG with the cruise and air on!  I would say if you are in the market for retro-muscle and looked at the choices the Mustang would be the only one that fit the bill.  Remember, the mustang has never been pulled from the production line since 1964.  That is 42 years and very few lines can boast that long of a run especially in that market segment .

That being said, you can see from the cars listed below I am a Mopar guy, but if DC did a better job with the current lineup of Euro trash they are pawning off as Dodges, maybe all the people wouldn't be lined up to buy the Mustangs!

If i were buying a new car,  the only thing worth it right now is the Mustang.  Im a big Dodge and Pontiac fan.   Since dodge dropped the ball on the charger, Pontiac Let the Trans Am go, and Chevy is in LA LA land   ::) designing new cars,  I would buy the new Mustang.

I agree with Dale & 69hemi....there's no way to compare the '05 to the '68-70 stang, classic muscle cars always win hands down, but like I said before in the forums if DC had done a Charger like the '99 concept. theres no way I'd be driving a Ford (first Ford ever by the way) you can't compare the looks of the new Mustang GT to the visually-challenged bloated pigs '05 Charger & GTO. Plus theres' nothing like dropping the top on a hot summer night with the 300HP Stang GT and blasting to redline with the 5 speed. Ford engineers really did there homework with the exhaust sound!!!!!

then I feel guilty and have to take the Charger out for a cruise too...I'm really blowing through Gas money lately.

MoparYoungGun

Personally, I like it. I think that Ford did an excellent job retaining the style of the older Mustangs only in a modern package. I believe that there are some areas that could use a bit of prefecting but other than that I think that did a job well done. Now, only if Dodge could do that!

This from a person who hates Fords.
To look at the line up of cars that have hit the market in the past few years, the only two cars that come close to getting my attn: are 1 the Magnum and 2 the Mustang. I think Mustang did a fine job of redefing it's self in the style it carries today. A long cry from 2 years ago. The Magnum Wagon is a sweet looking ride and both sound great IMO.

Given how Daimler translated the old to the new, Ford's transition is almost heaven sent. I think it is a very nice tip of the hat to the former version. No so at all with Daimler's attempt.

I love it...came thisclose to buying one myself, but went with the 70 Charger instead.  My main driver is a 98 Mustang and she has done good for me over the years...122 thousand miles on it.

Maybe one day I will get the new Mustang (After I am done doing whatever I do with this Charger), but it is way better then the new Charger.

How can you say that you "hate" it? You might dislike certain styling cues or performance numbers, but we are all car guys and gals! I applaud the blue oval and hope the rest of the big three take notice and not only follow suit, but take this retro thing further. I like it. I don't "love" it. Many believe there is a fine line between love and hate.
Keep 'em coming, Detroit.

I like it, but please dont tell us that you like 06, do you?

I assume you are asking about the '06 charger?  If I were in the market for a sport sedan, it would be one of a handful of cars I would look at before I made a purchase.  Without having driven it, I would think I would chose  an Infinity g35 or Chrysler 300C before the charger.  Hell, I'd buy a magnum over a charger for sure.

How do you stay true to a car that kept changing?  The Mustang has always been pony.  The Charger went from a luxury performance car, to a performance car, back to luxury performance, then, just luxury, then, FWD performance.

The new Mustang is already boring to me. They gave it their all and sold a ton a Mustangs, like every other year. Now what do they do?

I can't understand why most of you want a "new" Charger to resemble an old Charger ??? Every week there are at least 6 or 7 new Mustang owners who park their new cars at the cruise and talk about how beautiful they are. Do you really think in 3yrs they will still own the car? IMO the new Charger just makes the classic Charger that much sweeter.  :Twocents:

Magnum is a nice looking car. My wife and I test drove 3 new cars last Sat. First was the C class Mercedes sedan. We both disliked it for a variety of reasons not the least of which was the cabin size. Next was a 3 series BMW sedan. Nice car, better space and comfort than the C class. Last was BMW 525 ix all wheel drive sedan.
OH MY GOD! It was my first time behind the wheel of this magnificent automobile. I couldn't any fault with it, except for the sticker (and maybe the stigma). We intend to look at the Magnum all wheel drive, but I probably made the mistake of driving the 5 series first.
As far as the Mustang, I will wait to see the new Challenger in '07 or '08 before I buy myself a 2 door rear wheel drive fun car. If it is retro, who knows? I just might ditch my current Mopars to help finance it.

Ghoste

I like the new Mustang a lot and admittedly it's because of the retro styling.  But what are they gonna do next year?

cudaken

Sorry, I skipped most of the thread so I may be miss speaking. But my self, I think Ford hit it right on the head. If I was a sleep for the last 20 year's (OK Passed OUT) and woke today I would know it was a Mustang. I will also enjoy kicking there ass like the good old day's as well. Better than pairing up a Rice Burnner.

Saw a new Charger today, hell they even got the skrip wrong on the word CHARGER. They did spell it right tho.

I rather have the BBQ Horse Meat than the funny looking 300 M.
