Calling all 2006 - 2008 Charger owners....

I've always said I would always drive a truck, BUT, my truck has been sitting on the side of the house for a LONG time so I'm thinking about getting rid of it.  I have 2 more years of payments and really just need a good car for everyday use.  I've been pounding miles on my 03 Crown Vic cop car, but parts are starting to wear out too fast.   With the above said, I did some digging to find out with getting rid of my truck I can probably get a 07 Charger RT, or 06 SRT8 and have no more payments     There's a ton of RTs around my house for sale.   Been reading on other sites about the RT, Daytona and SRT8, but just wanted to get some feedback from those that have them.   I'm kind of excited to have a fast everyday driver.  I've seen 06 SRT8s going for the same as a 07/08 RT, so now I'm really thinking.

I've got an 06 RT Daytona and my wife has an 08 SXT with all the upgrades, hot leather seats, sunroof, climate control. satellite radio, etc. Both of them are reliable and fit our needs so far.  If you're looking at an SRT be sure you really want it, because they aren't quite as practical, but still a good fun ride.  The Daytona is a nice middle ground.

Oh yeah, I drive the RumbleBee less than either of the other two.  When I drive it, it's usually earning its keep.

I bought a brand new 2006 R/T and less than a year after I bought it I traded it in for a 2006 SRT8. I personally think you will be money ahead if you go ahead and get the SRT8. By the time you spend the money to upgrade an R/T, you will have more money tied up in it than if you had just got the SRT8 in the first place. Also, the SRT8 will quite easily blow the doors off an R/T or Daytona. If you test drive various Charger models, you will see what I mean. I have had my SRT8 for a little over 3 years now, and other than some minor issues that were covered under warranty, it has been very dependable and largely trouble-free. I commute about 43 miles each way to work every day, and the SRT does just fine as a daily driver.

I have an 06rt...i love it and so does my family. Like you said a fast everyday car....they are great cars...

Thanks for the feedback.   I'm going to test drive an RT and SRT8 and see for myself the difference.  Like any premium type car, they tend to depreciate pretty quick, so I think I can get a low mileage one at a decent price.

What kind of problems have you had?  I saw one post on another website that said there's an issue with the trans .  One post out of about 200 that I saw..... I would say may be individual issue

There is a rear seal in the trans that leaked. This is a common problem and an easy fix. This is something that typically happens early in the car's life, so if you get a car with a lot of miles on it, chances are this will have already been taken care of. If you get the SRT8, you will want to watch the coolant bottle. For some reason, on the 6.1 HEMI, the coolant had sludge buildup in it that was supposedly a by-product of the casting process. A simple coolant flush will take care of the problem, and this is also something that tends to happen early in the car's life. Other than those two issues, my car has been trouble-free.
