i have a 68 charger with power steering. and don't know what years and model cars i could get a new power steering gearbox out of to use in the charger. anyone know what all fits thanks.

The old PS gearbox's usually need to be rebuilt.  They used a small spline sector shaft up to about 72 or 73 and then went to the large spline.  Firm Feel will rebuild either and you can choose the steering feel you want by 1, 2, or 3, the last being the most road feedback.  I'm thinking that most Chrysler producst from the mid 60's up to early 70's would be what you have.  Note that the large sector is a direct interchange except that you have to buy the matching pitman arm.  The large spline is available from MOOG for something like $50.  The small spline used to be only available from Rare Parts, Inc.  Not sure what they cost now or if anyone else has these but they were over a $100.  Firm Feel told me that they like the large spline sector better to rebuild and that it holds up better and has less leakage problems.  They accepted my old small sector box off my 69 as a core.  And the C-bodies use the same boxes.  I think I would go with someone like Steer and Gear or Firm Feel before I would buy one from a parts place rebuilt.  May cost more but those folks specialize in these and they know what they are doing.

i didn't know about the smaller shaft's. are you talking about the shaft that comes out the bottom of the box and attaches to the pitman arm right? i was going to take off the original box on my 68 and put it off to the side and buy a box off someone to use as a core at firmfeel. not to put in and use so i wouln't have to pay the steep price they charge for not sendin in a core. so you have a 72 or so on up box in yours you got from firmfeel with the large shaft? did it bolt right up? any idea what the 2 shaft diameters are?

Don't know what the diameters are right off and have not installed mine yet.  But I called Firm Feel and they said it was a direct bolt in with the exception that I had to use the newer pitman arm.  At the time I bought my box, they would take either the small or the large dia. sector shaft box as a core.  You need to call them to make sure this is still the case.  They can tell you better exactly which years they will take as a core.

how can you tell what box you have? any casting #'s or distinct differences between the two housings you can go by?
