I used turtle wax chrome polish and aluminum foil.  It's a softer metal so it won't damage the finish.

I wasn't happy with the first redo of the front emblem.  I used that acrylic touch up paint that I found out isn't worth a damn.  Couldn't get rid of the brush strokes and it didn't stick hardly at all.  So I just masked the emblem and did it the right way.

Much happier now  :D

I know, I was weary at first myself.  For anything caked on chrome like dirt, tar, or even paint/plastic from fender benders, crumple up a ball of aluminum foil so it has ripples in it.  Put some cleaner/polish on the chrom and scrub away.  You don't even have to be gentle since aluminum is a softer metal so it won't leave a mark.  Just a nice smooth finish  :2thumbs:

Test it out on a small portion until you gain some trust.  Just DON'T USE STEEL WOOL!

I'll certainly have to try that...how does it treat surface rust?

Works well on rust, especially if you put some vinegar on it.  But if there's a lot of rust, there won't be much chrome left under it.

I only have the housing mounted to the bumper.  Currently I only have one tail light lens and it's in crappy condition.  I'm on the hunt for some that are in better condition without spending too much.

For the emblem I just used Krylon and matched the paint the best I could.  Two light coats of primer and two light coats of paint.   :yesnod:

Sure will. It might be a while until I get some new tail light lens though. Saving up to get some head work done first  :coolgleamA:

Finally got a good set of lenses to test something out.  I think the long, thin tail light on the 69/70 charger is the most appealing visaully out of all the chargers so I tried it out on my 72.

A member requested that I post some pics once I get new lenses installed.  Here ya go...

It's kind of nit picky but there are a couple of differences. You can tell from the pic you posted that light can shine through the top and bottom of the lenses due to the white paint only being a pin stripe.  I blacked it all the way around so the light will only be visible from the face of the lense.  Also, the white pin stripes are VERY thin, the black portion I painted is much thicker and comes closer to the middle leaving less visible light on the surface as well.  It's just the little things that will make mine different  :icon_smile_big:

Also, if you look at the pic.  I am cutting the tab off the left side where the lens will cover the lights, so light will be able to go to the very edge of the lense and not be filtered only in the center portion...  if that wording made sense.  (you can see how the light abruptly stops before it gets to the edge of the lens on the left tail light from the pic you posted)

I know, It's one of those subtle aspects that you'll spend time on and most likely no one will even notice when it's on the car...

Maybe get a "neat-o" at best
