You don't have excessive gastritous, do you? Some farts have so much low end bass response that they can rattle windows.

So if you ruled out all kinds of things like the ideas that others mentioned, including having a priest over for an exorcism, maybe someone hid something inside the cushion to play a prank on you with. If there isn't anything in there, I'd be inclined to believe it's just that one of the sofa legs/feet on the bottom, line up directly over a floor joist that is transferring the vibration from somewhere else. Freezers, pumps, boilers, dehumidifiers, & other appliances all vibrate, & some worse than Rosie 'O'Donnell's personal massager.

By the way, you don't live near a race track at all, do you?  :D

Just a thought, does it happen at a specific time every day?  Are there any trains or large vehicles that go past when this happens?

No, it starts up at any given time it looks likes. We have no trains around here, I live out in the sticks, the closest thing to a train would be I-8- which is about 2 to 3 miles away if that. Other then that nothing close by.

Rearrange your living room.  If that doesn't work, call a priest.

i did that last fall, yet the sofa still does the same thing. I mean you can be setting on it and wam out of the blues you can feel it start to vib under you. Then after so long it will just end.

Something mechanical in the house I would think.  How about a sump pump?  Or a water softener when it discharges?   Well Pump?  Do you have a basement?   :shruggy:

Nope, the house has no sump pump at all, under the house is ground that is about 2 feet from the floor of the house. Nothing mechanical under the house either. So that rules that those two things out.

There is a race track about 2 miles up the road. But if it was that I would be feeling the vib coming from the sofas only on that one day of the week, but I feel this vib at times all the time in different times though. No I don't have excessive gastritous , if I did I would admit it here.

Well guys, I check the back out and found nothing and also checked down in the gap that is under the back build in cushion and found afew dollars though . Other then that I found nothing else down in there. I still have to look in through the bottom. I checked all the cushions out and there is nothing in them at all but for the foam though.. I check under the house last night and there is nothing under there  that be making that happen. I check where the frame beam was located at and where the sofa was setting at on top of the floor. There not on each other locations. I check the sofa legs also and there all pretty well hook to the sofa. But I still need to check the bottom of the sofa yet here though. I am going to take and place 6 small pieces of cut pine blocks under the legs today to see what happens after that though.

Ok, was this a new couch that you bought or a used one from a dead person.  Ive heard stories where some people are attached to certain things and when they pass, they tend to "haunt" furniture or such like that.

Well I had the sofa given to me about 3 years ago by my aunt which past away early last year just 4 days past new years. I'm not really 100% sure where she got it from but I know I got it from here as she would always go out and get used stuff all the time and was always throwing stuff out after maybe a week of having something. The sofa was used when she got it given to her at the time. The strange thing is now that I think about it. I think when she had it up at her place I think she mention afew times said she thought it was viberating also from time to time when she set down on it but she thought she was just imaging it though (she was in her early 70's) but people (family members)  just laugh at her about it. Then when I got it, I stuck it out on my front porch for alittle while when I was remodeling the room and then I bought it into the house and at first nothing seem to happen then the viberation started up one evening out of the blues. My friend Mark was playing GTA 4 for xBox when I was coming in from the kichen with a cup of coffee and I look at him as he had the game puse and was looking around at the sofa. I ask him what was wrong (I thought there was bee flying around that I didn't see or hear as they do fly in the house in the summer time) and he said "Jim, does your sofa have a viberating feature on it?" and I said "No, why?" and he said "I swear I feel the sofa viberating just a second ago" and as he was asking me, it stopped. I felt the cushion and nothing. At first I didn't think anything of it as I think he was pulling my leg  as you know how some friends would.

Then My cousin had it happen with him also.. and when he ask me the same thing I was like "what the..?" because now this was more like the 2nd person had ask me the same thing almost about the sofa. Then one night I was laying on the sofa watching a Dukes episode and wam out of the blues I felt it myself but I didn't think anything of it though and just ignored it like I did for awhile now until the other night. But Mark and Scott BOTH had there feet on the floor when it happen to them though at first both times. It was daytime for them and night time for me when I first felt it. I mean mostly it is like a weak vib but the other night it wasn't a weak one but rather a meduim one as I felt it through my back and I just thought it was my dang dremel tool that I might have for gotting to pick up when I was picking things up but when I look over at the tv stand and seen it up there that got my attention as to what the heck it was under my back then so that was when I got up and found nothing  :o . What ever it is has to be pushing strong enough to come up through the bottom, up through a 4 inch think foam cushions and then through a blanket like that covers the sofa to make the body feel it.  To what I felt, felt like it was coming from the center cushion (which is the one I was talking about earlier) and nothing under it either or I would have felt a lump when I first set down on it   and when I place my hand on the bottom tan liner of the sofa I felt nothing either but for afew coil springs and they wasn't at all viberating.

jeryst

Take the cushions off the sofa and stack them on the floor near the sofa.
Try to take turns to see if it is the cushions or the sofa itself.

Since you live out in the sticks, maybe you got a nest of baby rattlesnakes, or a mama snake in there.
Its not uncommon for snakes to come into houses in search of rodents, and crawl into a piece of furniture.

I have a big snake in my garage, and I have no idea how he is getting in, but he's not poisonous, and he
eats the mice, so I leave him alone. Sometimes, he watches me work on my car.

Here is what I'm going to do in about 15 minutes. I'm going to remove everything off it, and slice afew small holes in the liner and then take my digital camera and stick my hand down inside with the camera and take some photos and post them as well. This way we all will see what is going on down in side there. I been setting on the sofa for the last few hours working on the model again and nothing is happen at all. I check under the cushions as well and all I can feel is afew coil springs that are higher then the rest but other then that nothing is going on with the sofa right now.

Speaking of Special Flashlights : this story will keep you guys and gals entertained while Jim is taking pics. A girl I use to bartend with, went home one nite a little loopy. She was playing with her Special Flashlight.   And I guess she passed out. She woke up and heard a noise. She thought someone broke into her house. So, she called the cops. They came looked all around her house. Then they opened her nightstand drawer. And guess what they found ?   She said they were laughing so hard and weren't even going to write a report.  :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol:

In all seriousness (this time)

Do you have any construction near you? I thought I was going crazy once because my chair was vibrating, and it turned out to be a roadbed compactor which was shaking the heck out of everything in about a half mile radius. Just hard enough to make you think you were losing your mind, couldn't feel it while standing. Do you live in mining country? Could be something down below...oh there's an opening for another joke.

Okay you all, I couldn't go down through the top like  I wanted so I went through the bottom. I flip the sofa over and removed the black liner they had on it and also found a build date FOR when the sofa was built. Get this it was built 20 years ago! I got a photo of the tag, plus I have around 15 photos that shows what the inside of the sofa looks like and there is NOTHING in there, it's clean in there. I had to cut square holes in the bottom in between the metal bracing straps that they have nailed to the sofa bottom. the legs on the sofa is very very very well attach and not one of them are loose at all. yanked on them and almost had the sofa land on ME!

The inside is very well built also and had to cut another set of holes to get photos from both left and right side showing the opposite ends inside and the wooden cross beams also that is the sofa's frame. Nothing is loose at all but for the bottom liner now though. I will upload the photos here in afew minutes and post them.

Oh yea, I took the cushions out on the porch to check out in case there was something in one of them that I didn't see the other night, there clean also. But the one cushion cover I will need to repair though and the showing line snapped apart on me while I was trying to remove the foam from it. So far everything is checking out okay. I also checked the floor where the sofa sets at to see if I can feel any viberation at all, nope none at all and the fan is turn on and on high as well and the fridge in the kitchen was also running and I didn't feel anything at all on the floor where the sofa sets at. This is very strange. I figure with the fridge running and the fan on, I would find out if I could feel any viberations on the floor if it was coming from one of those and found nothing.

No, there is no construction going on as I am aware of around here. I don't live in mining area, The next closes place is at least um.. I would have to say at least 20 miles away maybe alittle more. But they been doing that kind of stuff for the last 20 years though.

Well, if I knew it was a nice female sprit in her mid 20's I wouldn't mind it at all  :D

I just wish the viberation would not be there is all.

The photos are being uploaded and I was wrong there are around 20 photos.

Correction there is 40 photos  :o

MoparManJim

Okay, here is the photos of the inside of the bottom of the sofa.. plus the build tag (I think it's the build tag) .

There was afew photos the camera took double of so I didn't put the copys up.

Doesn't look like there are any loose springs to give that 'boing' vibration effect when your sitting on it.

Hmmm.....

That's what I was think to, everything in there is fasten real good to something and it's hard to make anything in there viberate as I tryed to. When I drop the sofa back down onto it's legs the bottom tan liner didn't even viberate it just remained stiff. When I threw the cushions down on it they didn't either. It's strange. At least there is no rodents in the bottom portin

I watch the dvd's of Ghost Hunters so I'm trying to debunk what could be making the sofa viberate only at certain times. So far I'm coming up empty handed. I am going to get in touch my one cousin (my aunt's son) and see if he maybe can tell me where his mom gotten the sofa at afew years back. I have another friend that runs a mission place where my aunt loose to get alot of her stuff from also and I'm going to check in with the owner guy there (we're old friends) and see if my aunt maybe got it from hi and if so maybe he might remember where he got it from back then. I like the sofa don't get me wrong, but the vibe has me puzzled though or it's originits.

jeryst

My money is on something living in it.

It's just not there right now.

Leave the cushions off until it vibrates again, so that you can isolate it better.

I just love a good mystery!
