Oil Pressure Gauge Pegged (Quick Question)

Wondering if i am having a grounding issue as my gauge was working fine the other day. Cluster was just rebuilt and calibrated.  Also my car has brand new wiring harnesses.

Just replaced alternator and thinking a wire came loose.  Is the oil pressure sending unit on a 440 by the distributor???

Haven't had time to check the car out yet but any insight before i start looking into the issue would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Coolant temp, oil in rear of block, pegged gauges could mean voltage reducer for gauges has failed/shorted or you lost ground, bad as it will fry them fast.  :o

Thanks for the response...................i ended up unplugging the gauge from the sender to not fry the gauge.  I am trying to find out where it is grounded as my buddy helped me with the rewire but i hope its not the gauge  :brickwall:

Check "RTE" web sight out....good info there. (Sorry no link but I was just reading about this earlier this week)

Is your temp and gas gauge working correctly? If so the gauge regulator is working ok. Its either the sending unit or more likely the wiring is shorting to ground.

Yes all my gauges work fine except for the oil pressure. I am going to pick up another sending unit as mine looks pretty old.

Check the resistance of the oil pressure transducer with a multimeter first. Of course, If a multimeter is not available it is probably just cheaper to switch out the transducer and see if that is the problem.   :icon_smile_wink:

Thanks everyone for the help  :2thumbs:

Just picked up another sending unit and dropped it in today.  Problem solved!!!
