Comp Xtreme Energy High Lift Flat Tappet Video --normal noise?

Ron and members,

I have the above cam with a .564" lift.  I adjusted the push rods and rockers twice now and it is one full turn after zero lash.  I've read where the valve train is very noisy with this lift of cam, but wanted to post some video to get opinions.  Based on what I've read on Moparts and via google searches, this may be normal?

I adjusted the carb some more yesterday, and the car runs awesome .  The other thing I should share is the vacuum is very low at 7.

The XEHL cams are noisy and that sounds like some i've heard before....maybe slightly louder ? 

Mike, are you running synthetic oil by chance ?

Ron, no running Bradd Penn 10w 30.  I read where people are being encouraged to run a thicker grade....  What would be causing the knock then?

I have a XE274 cam and it sounds very similar to the first half of your video.  I can't hear it in the car, just when the hood is up.  The ticking sound at about 40 seconds in is something mine doesn't do.

I've always had a ping ping when getting a little into it. Tried the cab/timing adjustment without much luck. So, my dear wife said lets take the Charger today (Saturday) and I'll put some gas in I for Fathers day. Well it was on her dime so I went with 93 octane. What a difference. The pinging went away and it started right up every time.

Well, i've listened to the video 5 times now. It's hard to tell how loud/noisy the valvetrain is because of several factors ; first it appears that you're filming inside a garage and that allways amplifies sound. Second, the sheet metal valcovers won't dampen noise like a cast aluminum valvecover would....so things appear to be noisier. 

I would re-check everything once more and make sure the rocker shafts are installed correctly....oil holes facing down and towards the outside (exhaust side) of the head. There is only one correct way to install the shafts so make sure. If the noise persists i would try some Brad Penn 20/50 and see if that quiets it down.

On a related note : VegasMike was running a 20/50 VR1 oil and switched to a lighter grade synthetic and the same type of noises surfaced. The valvetrain sounded like a sewing machine. After going back to the 20/50 dino lube all was well again.
