Daytona R/T SE

An act of stupidity that I committed over 20 years ago has been made right.

Those of you that know me, or have been around here awhile know that my first

Charger was a ' 72 Petty Blue SE that I bought back in 1982. :coolgleamA:

After owning and driving that SE for years....

I sold it in the late eighties, to a moron who wrecked it -BADLY- a few

weeks later. :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:

For the last couple of decades, I've kept my eyes open for another ' 72 SE. :scope:

Everytime I found one, I was either flat broke, or the car was too far away, or it

was too expensive, or it was too rusty, or the house needed fixing, the truck was

broken, the dog died, I needed to pee, I was too fat to get up off the couch, the

Ol' lady was pissed off about something, you know... the whole sob story full of

excuses... :bawling:

Then....

I was reading the DodgeCharger.com "Cars for sale" section the other night...

And spotted an ad that said "72 Dodge Charger SE" for sale....

I pm'ed the seller "Jerry" and after several days of him graciously putting up with

my crap, hundreds of photos being taken by him and sent to me via e-mail,

bunches of phone calls and Jerry just going WAY out of his way to convince my

hard headed, stubborn ass that this SE was "The one"

I bought it. :boogie:

It will be here in a couple of weeks. :woohoo: :woohoo:

THANKS JERRY ! :2thumbs:

I OWE YOU BIG TIME !

Do 72 SE's all have that funky slim quarter curtain? I scoped out a 72 today in Decatur, IN. Wondering if it was an SE/ Brougham car? It had a 383/727 9.25 combo. Someone ( a worse hack than myself) installed Continental? opera glass in the sail panels and the car was full of plastic. Had a nice looking hideaway assembly, though. For $4,700, I passed.

I'll tell you one thing I've learned:

When I get the 66 "polished up" and ready to be put on the market, you can forget Craigslist and Ebay...

I'm going to put it on a car trailer and head east on I-40 !!

If it's anything like with this 72, I'm betting I don't make the Arizona state line before someone has made
me an offer I can't refuse !!

(You're lucky I'm a man of my word, Chris....or I would be sitting back in CA, sucking on my own Mickey Wide Mouths and counting my pictures of Dead Presidents !!

And if that humidity and heat index is as bad as I think it's going to be there, you'd better have TWO fridges and an 'iced down' wash tub full of them puppies !!

Yes, all 72 S.E.'s have a HUGE c-pillar and tiny quarter windows. Some folks aren't fond of the look and the visibility when changing lanes is a real bitch!

Shucks, Chris....I don't know what the big deal is (but thank you for the kind words)....I just did what I said I was going to do...

That's just the way I was raised...I know it seems sometimes like a 'lost art', but I was brought up to believe that if a man doesn't have his honesty, integrity, and doesn't stand by his word, then he
really has nothing.

Bottom line: The car was for sale, you liked it, we came to an agreement, I promised delivery, it's delivered.

End of story....It's sad that so many bad past experiences have led so many people to be surprised when someone actually follows up on their word and delivers what they promised....just the times, I guess.

At any rate, buddy...think no more of it, I'm just glad you like the car...(I TOLD you it was THE ONE,...
didn't I ??)

Enjoy it brother, you deserve it....and thanks again for the kind words.

Jer.  (And you owe me nothing, never mind that 'forever in your debt' jive) ;D

I sold a car 72 Ford Ranchero GT and promised delivery....I had to end up going 300 miles without a added dime to the deal. Sucks, but you have to stick with what you promised.

Despite the fact it's been 100 degrees here for several days,

I decided about 4:30 last Thursday afternoon to go up into the attic of my garage to see what I had laying around up there

that I could use on my newly acquired '72 Charger SE...

It was so hot up there that I'm sure I was about to spontaneously combust...

...But stubborn old me was going "shopping" any way.

Let's just say I found a few things...

Daytona R/T SE

The "SPORT TOP"...

Daytona R/T SE

Is GONE !

Daytona R/T SE

When I removed the bench seat and carpet to begin converting the car to buckets/console I had a little surprise lurking under

the rug...

This was totally undetectable from underneath the car...

And EVERYTHING else is rock solid on this California car...

Daytona R/T SE

No problem...

I'll just cut it out...

Daytona R/T SE

And start fitting the replacement piece...

This is gonna need a little trimming...

mikesbbody

Nice progress!  :2thumbs: I'm glad the Sport Top is history  :yesnod:

Daytona R/T SE

Floor pan is all better now.  :coolgleamA:

Console/slapstick shifter is in.  :2thumbs:

Bucket seats are in.  :woohoo:

Please note the very rare upper/lower shifter option... :slap:

Daytona R/T SE

The interior "Before" shots...

Daytona R/T SE

So I get this car... :coolgleamA:

Wait...Has it been two years ago?  :o

Shit !  :brickwall:

Anyway...

So...

I get this car, and after swapping out the interior and scraping off the "Sport Top" custom padded vinyl

top, along with replacing the driver's side front floor pan...

Nothing.

It sits.

Well, I did manage to dig up a battery tray for it out of the "Archives" and install it... :2thumbs:

But, I've never attempted to start it. :icon_smile_dissapprove:

Two years...

No crankie-crankie. ::)

I do know there is a mystery noise in the engine: :scratchchin:

http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,41659.msg458931.html#msg458931

As revealed by former owner and trans-continental delivery guy "Jerry" ;)

But I haven't tried it yet. :shruggy:

I'm planning on runnin' a 440 in it anyway, but...

It would be nice to know if it will still run and what the mystery noise is. :scratchchin:

Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be nice and I've got the day off... :coolgleamA:

Think I'll shove it outside in the bright sunshine...

Light the fuse on this bomb...

And see if something blows...

No.
