Well, it's hard to argue a Jeff Bridges/Coen Brothers teamup but a True Grit remake? Come on!

Hollywood ran out of original plots many years ago. Even if they use the original title the remake is sure to be "modernized".

It's rare, but some remakes are better than the originals. For example, as much as the original King Kong is true classic, I thought the recent remake was a lot better. Maybe it was the special effects that helped, but I loved it. Others are so bad you know they're just cashing in on the name. I will admit though, original ideas still rule. 


Except for Ishtar with Dustin Hoffman & Warren Beatty.

I agree we get too many remakes in total these days.  But taken individually, the principle of remaking a classic is usually okay IMHO. 


If the remake is better then we benefit.  If the remake is worse then it usually just reminds people how good the original was.

From what I read, they are going to be sticking closer to the original novel than the 1969 movie. That is really a whole different ball of wax. Because the 69 movie changed so much and veered from the original story, especially in the point of view. This really isn't a remake. It is kind of like the Shining move made a decade or so ago that was taken right from the Stephen King novel, which was quite different than the heavily reworked first movie version.

Peter Jackson ( lord of the rings director ) is doing a remake of the Dambusters, should be good. has got a private fleet of period aircraft as well.  apparently, the dog is not called nigger this time tho
