Is there any way to find out the factory options on my car without the fender tag?  for instance can an appraiser possibly look back to previous owners via old service records, registration, or something like that? my car shows (by vin numbers) its a 1969 dodge charger r/t 440 single 4 barrel etc....i think this is a

but im seeing evidence that it had a for speed at one time not only on the tranny hump but on the firewall too ,,it has a dana 60 rear end ..i know these things could have been installed by anyone but if this was factory stuff i think i might have a rare car ,,and this will help me decide what to do with it ....thanks !

Without the broadcast sheet and the tag, you can never be 100% sure. Also, the tag contains other info outside of options you do not know, like the date it was built and the order number.

Have you lifted the back seat and carpet to look for the build sheet. :2thumbs:

unfortunately there wasnt an original back seat with it ... :eek2:

Check the back of the glovebox too and as mentioned, under the carpet. (assuming those two options exist)

If the car is original, you can pretty well determine what options it came with just by looking at it.
If it's been modified, well, that's a whole 'nuther story.

Build dates can be approximately determined by the codes on your engine, and your VIN sequence. Those in the know can come pretty close to the actual build date by comparing your VIN to others built on or around the same time. I suggest contacting Wayne Wooten and the Charger registry. He helped me out a lot on mine, which was also missing the build tag.

Unless you are the original owner, you can't ever be sure it is original. It was very common for people to upgrade their cars with options after purchase.
