what does torque converter balloning mean?  Why is it hard on the thrust bearings?

Challenger340

Means the Convertor was getting abnormally HOT during operation, causing it to "expand" longitudinally, excerting pressure forward on the Crank ?

Generally NOT an issue, unless very High Stall Speeds are seen for long periods ?

Whats the application ?
WTF happened ?
Only wimps wear Bowties !

The term "balloon" refers to the swelled bowls of the converter, resembles an inflated balloon.

It has less to do with temperature than excessive loading or operating a torque converter at very high RPM, this can cause the shape of the converter's housing to be physically distorted due to internal pressure and/or the stress imposed by centrifugal force.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
