What's a 3rd Gen power bulge hood worth?

I got an extra hood with the 73 SE I got last year, an original power bulge hood, and I don't plan to use it, so I figure I should sell it. I don't know what they are typically worth, or even if they fit all 4 3rd Gen years. Anybody have a good ball park figure? It is rust and major dent free, has a couple small paint bubbles in one small area, that's about the only imperfection I have found on it.

I would think around $750 in the current market for an original.  Although all I have to go off is the fact that a repro hood in fiberglass is around $450.
Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 4 minutes.

The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

Depends on the year of the bulge hood, if it's plain (no inserts), or if it's a Ramcharger hood...and it's condition.  A good condition later year, plain bulge hood will go for anywhere from $750-$1000.  Hoods with inserts and in good condition start at $1000.  You'll be lucky to find a Ramcharger hood in good condition for less than $1500.

The louvers on the back of the hood should help give some indication of what year the hood is. I THINK the 71 hoods have one continuous row of louvers across the back; 72 and 73 hoods have two clusters of louvers; and 74 hoods have no louvers.

Agree with the others, bulge hoods, without the Super Bee or R/T inserts, in good condition: I've seen them on eBay going for anywhere from $750 up to $1,500.

It should be helpful in raising funds for your project!

Thanks for the input- if I had guessed at a value, I would have been low! It's a plain bulge hood, no inserts. Still has the black paint/tape treatment on the bulged area. I'll check the louvers when I get home tonight to see which year it actually is.

Those numbers seem high to me, in the midwest I see them come up occasionaly and have never seen more than $500.  I guess I should be buying and Ebaying them!

My 73 has no louvers.

I paid $200 for mine, it does have a dent though

E5 Charger

I paid $500 for mine a month ago. It has a shallow dent and rust, but solid. I found it locally, so no shipping.

I would put them at $250-600 max depending on the condition.  :Twocents:

if you are realy wanting to sell it, put it on ebay with a $300 reserve.  Let us know what it goes for.  If some one realy needs it you might get $700.

Id say 400-500 max.

Unless its a air grabber, those go for big bucks.

My 73 has no louvers.

So you don't have a 73 hood then it's a 74 some 71's have a small gap in between (like 72's)

Ok, either retardation or alltimers must have set in because I looked today and it does have two.

You can tell by looking at the louvers what year it is as mentioned 71 all the way across (or a small gap) 72, small gap 73, 2 small lot's of louvers (big gap in between) 74, no louvers. Some 3rg Gen guy's like 74's because it has no louvers.
I picked up a 71 Super Bee Hood (this one had the small gap between louvers) back in 2006 for 350.00$ I thought I did pretty good! (no insert and it did need some work) Back then thing's were more expensive.

Here's a pic of the hood... I'm guessing from the descriptions that it is a 71 or 72 hood?

72... all bulged 71s where with cut out for insert or Air Ram. "Plain" bulged hood began on 72s

What Nacho said you have a 72 Rallye hood there note the small gap in between the louvers and the lack of insert looks to be pretty good!  :2thumbs:

Expect AMD to kick one out soon, so if you can get a good price I'd do it now before the bottom drops out!
