typical story.  boy has digestive problem, boy drags self to ER 1am, at 3am ER sends him home with kick in the ass and a "take malox for that ulcer" diagnosis...boy follows up with GP 10am..GP sends boy back to ER by 11am, Day shift evidently gives half a shit and decides to do an actual test and boy finds out gall bladder is infected and full of stones and has to come out.
Boy no longer has gall bladder. boy still not sure how to even spell gall bladder. boy is me and boy feels like 2lbs of shit in a one lb bag right now.  had it done weds morning, got out yesterday.

get well soon. :2thumbs:
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Wow, sorry to hear that.  Yes, hospitals do seem to suck lately.  My wifes grandmother went in for heart surgery only to get kicked out 3 days later to end up back in the hospital with a bad infection from the procedure.  Turns out the infection started where they put the IV into her which was no in her arm like they normally do.

I think they get so many people in there making mountains out of mole hills that it becomes a boy who cried wolf thing with them.  I know I'm no daisy and if I'M driving myself to the ER, it's a real emergency and not some attention grab...but I guess they didn't.  They were using words like "impressive" to describe the ultrasound of my gall bladder..and not in a good way.  My buddies had a field day with that, they said we always thought your gall was impressive!

I really want to thank you guys for all the well wishes.  I have never broken a bone or had major surgery in my life so this was as ill as I have ever been.  I was scared because I'm the strong one, I'm the one who hasn't taken a sick day in 6 years, I'm the one who goes in when I'm sick because the work has to get done.  I always suck it up.  So for me to be laid up like this is very humbling.

I am slowly getting back to being me again.  2nd day of the daily mile walks, i stopped the vicadin because from my perspective, It's probably great for getting you hooked, making you loopy, and giving birth to a black market where crooked pharmacists and junkies can create their own little underground economy,  but doesn't actually take away any pain.  Tylenol seems just as good.  They put these pieces of heavy tape over the incisions and they will dissolve on their own so that means no bandage changing and I can shower daily which is always nice.

Thanks guys, this was the worst thing I ever went through and god willing, it will be the worst thing I ever go through.

I can certainly understand the pain you are going through. I have a 6.5mm kidney stone that I have been trying to pass for the past 4 weeks. It is not too bad when it stays there, but when it decides to move I am almost crying with pain. Once it reaches the bladder then they can retrieve it easily (according to them  :o ). At least you got it out and are on the road to recovery.
Make it idiot proof, and somebody will make a better idiot!

did they do the simple 3 hole surgery with cool little arms and lasers and crap ?    If so you're golden...    my old man had his out back in about '85...       they left him with a 13" scar diagonal across from the left pectoral to the lower right side of his abdomen...         thank god for modern technology...

My uncle had his out in 1999

Dad recovery time: 3 weeks plus 27 staples....

Uncle recovery time: Surgery Friday morning 9am...    went bowling Saturday night at 8pm...    (no joke)

yes, they did it laproscopically (sp?) got discharged thursday morning, was back at work today.  Although I had no trending of any kind to indicate problems in the months leading up to this, my gall bladder was in real bad shape.  It was gang green.  The surgeon said that it was very close to turning into the old school slice and dice.  He made it work thank god.  I could not take weeks of recovery.  F that!

No bowling for me though.  lol

Husband went through that a few weeks after we met. Went through one surgery just before we met and flew through it. Then went through the "lap" and they couldn't finish the surgery. So he had the bad gall bladder, the surgery, and he could barely move. They made him wait to go through the surgery again...he was thrilled. We have actually gotten this problem under control according to the specialist. They no longer had to do the surgery. Glad yours was a success and you will feel great real soon.
