Found this charger listed on craigslist http://syracuse.craigslist.org/ctd/1767475671.html

Looks to be a 68 with a column auto and a console. Don't claim to be a charger expert that's for sure but I don't recall ever seeing that.  :scratchchin:  Doesn't list the fender tag and I sent the guy an email asking for it to see whats up.

I saw a 66 Coronet 500 with the same set-up.  Can't remember if it was a three speed on the column or an automatic, but it was factory.

Not even a 68 console. A 68 console would be chrome ribbed with argent trim.  that looks like a 69 or 70. Never heard of a column shift car with a console. Maybe it could be ordered, but I doubt it.

good point, He's probably spent a bit of time on it putting it in there and buckets  but maybe should've started with a 68 console perhaps

Obviously this particular set up is wrong for a 68,but you could get a console with a column car. The 68 ones used a 4 speed top plate with a block off plate instead of a shifter boot. There is a pic of this in the service manual for those who want proof.

Hi 1HotDaytona, could you post a scan of this page? This is interesting, and I don't doubt the possibility of a column shift console in the 68 Charger........really unusual! Sure would like to see an option code on a broadcast sheet for this set up.........  :scratchchin:

In the case the 68 the decal may conceal a patched shifter void.  However, I would not discount it as not original until to you see the backside of the top plate.  On the 66 it was the correct ribbed chrome top plate with no shifter hole ("shift delete" if you will) My buddy was second owner of the 66.

One possibility is that they were dealer installed.  With  "delete" console plates made available in case the dealer wanted to dress up a column shift or a customer decided later they wanted a console.  The part number may lived in another catalog (i.e. early version of accessories catalog) or on some type of mopar parts bulletin and never made it to the main parts catalog.

Another possibility is that it was a factory official / Chrysler exec. car and therefore true one-off's.

Looks like the guy didnt want the buddy seat anymore (if it even had one) and did like the console look so he found a 69 console and put it in.   :Twocents:

It can't be that simple. We must dig and dig until we find out something like it was the only Chinese import with original rear window A/C, four wheel disc brakes and power wing windows.

 Who crapped in your Wheaties this morning?

You realize that someone on Ebay will now try to sell their car stating it has those options.  :brickwall:

It used to be just another busted console that no one wanted to buy or even take away for free, and, I hate to throw away anything remotely useable, and  well... it seemed like a good idea at the time?...

Agreed...in the 66 Charger, if you got the 3spd on the column with the 318 engine, you got the automatic console with the 4spd top plate and a special "finish" plate in place of the shifter boot....it was all flat brushed aluminum, no ribs....all 66 Chargers had consoles, not sure about the Coronets.

And as stated above, I have never seen a column shift with a console in 67 & up

vancamp

console was available with column shift, while the top plates of the car in question if its a 68 has the wrong top plates it was something that could be ordered although very few were.

Old Moparz

I am hardly an expert on what cars came with, or what was available, but I remember reading (and not from an ebay ad) that even a 4 door was available with buckets & a console. If that was the case, why wouldn't a column shift car not have a console as an option? The woodgrain is definitely wrong, but that may have been added to replace a pitted '68 set of top plates.

EDIT:  Found this, it isn't the same thing as the column shift with a console, but it's a 300 4 door with a 4-speed, buckets, & a console.
