Well, you figure the Pontiacs were basically another renamed GM variation.  It was only a matter of time.

It was probably the Aztek that did them in. How could it not? It's so ugly it'll make your eyes bleed.   :o

Tuesday I was talking to someone I've known for years and found out he has a 79 Trans Am that hasn't ever been in snow and only in rain once. He used to get it out now and then but he said it hasn't been out of the barn in a couple years. I think he said it has 16k miles on it.  I gotta get over there one day and check that thing out.

IMO what really sets the Aztec apart is that it was never considered attractive.  Just butt-ugly out of the box.
Even the Pacer had a honeymoon period.

Talk about phoning one in......

I think the last Pontiac rolled off the line in November 2009

Such a shame seeing Pontiac go. Oh well, we'll still have their classics atleast to enjoy and the cars they've built in the past. Besides having a Mopar, there are three cars I really want......two of them being Pontiacs.

I bought my first new car June 1991, a black Formula Firebird TPI car. I still have it. The paint is the only part that reflects its age. It has held up very, very well. But I maintain it and never half ass any of the repairs.

I hear another one named "MERCURY" is on the chopping block as well.....

You are correct.  Down the road the brand name Pontiac will be licensed to a Chinese, Vietnimese, Indian etc, car company, that we have not yet heard of, that wants to market in the US.    GM will keep some of tried-and-true Pontiac model nameplates.   I believe you will see the same thing with Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth.

Yeah, it's a shame.  :'(  But it's to be expected in the whole "Shrink to Profitability" that the auto industry is going through.  My favorite car of all the muscle cars I've owned (well, besides the Charger ;D ) was my 67 GTO.  I miss that car something serious.  I'll get another, but for now I have an A12 Bee in my sights :2thumbs:

Cheers

My thought (hope) is that GM is going to sit on it for a while. When the economy gets better (it will eventually) they will bring it back with all new designs and a lot of hype. Huge advertising campaign to generate excitement. They did that exact thing with the Camaro and it's fairly successful, though the timing isn't the best. I don't think that Pontiac was ever a big profit maker for GM...more like a launching pad for performance ideas that would keep people interested in GM...and some things would make their way to other models. I think they just wanted it to pay for itself so they could continue to develop. I think that Pontiac, while small, is/was just too important with too rich of a history to let go for good.

Time will tell.   :popcrn:
