Ever check up on parked Chargers?

Couldn't really figure out a good topic.. anyway,  ever find yourself driving past places you know there are Chargers?  I go out usually once a week on deliveries for my job.  I found a 70 RT a few months ago that is just sitting in a neighborhood, unfortunately with some rust issues and such, doesn't looked like it's moved in quite some time.  I've come to refer to if as Sleeping Beauty..  :pity:   If I'm in the area, I drive past and it makes my day better!   :coolgleamA:

Found a 66 a week and a half ago.  Was in the area again today, so I decided to see if it was still there...  Yup!   :2thumbs:  So, I got to see and 1st & 2nd gen today..  Not a bad deal.

Always on the hunt, keeping an eye out for other Chargers too!

True!  would probably ruin my day!

You know, reading through this; I think I recall a 3rd gen parked in someone's yard near by.. Haven't been by there in awhile.

One of these days, I might actually work up the nerve to knock on the door where that 70 RT is at.  But, reading about all the reactions you can get blindly knocking on someone's door, I'm just uneasy about it.  I'm not looking to buy it or anything.  (I wish!)

It's fun to see the obsession is shared on this topic.

There was a black 68 sitting in someones yard most of my life...first time I saw it I was in 2nd or 3rd grade and it sat in that yard till I was 33 (I'm now 36)...then disappeared...its still hard to drive by and see the big bald spot on the grass where it sat. My dad did ask the guy many many years ago if it was for sale..and he said no..that he planned on getting it running again.  :brickwall:

Old Moparz

About 15 years ago I had to drive to an area that I haven't been to in ages to look at a construction project we were bidding on. One road I don't ever recall having driven on before, had a barn that was partially collapsed. The front was open, & you could just make out the front grille of a 1969 Charger as you drove past. Well, I had to make a u-turn to verify what I thought I had seen.  :o

It WAS a '69 Charger, & there were 2 or 3 other Mopars inside, all with pieces of the second floor resting on them. Maybe a C-Body, but nothing that looked rare. There was another car parked adjacent to the barn that looked safe & undamaged, an early 70's Plymouth if I recall, maybe a Satellite. The barn structure appeared very unstable so there was no way I was going to walk in & trespass to look around.

There were no houses on the same side of the road as the barn, so I didn't know which property the barn may have belonged to. I had hoped to return on a Saturday to see if I could figure out who owned it, but got busy & forgot. Besides, 15 years ago I had just started this job & wasn't in a position to drag another car home with no space, no money, no trailer, & no garage. I did go past a year or so later & never saw the car or the remains of a barn.

No matter where I am I always look for Mopars out of habit. Only difference now is that I tell myself it needs too much work & keep going.

I check once in a while on that '70 Charger too! The '66 you've noticed is my machine...I drive it quite a bit but since the weather has been so bad I haven't driven it that much!

Thats the worst feeling. There use to be a dark blue 69 with a 383 about a mile from my house that sat in a driveway for years. Perfect project car, had all original panels, no rust, and was complete. I waited till I had some cash in hand and went over there only to find out it was sold 2 weeks before I showed up and for about a grand less than what I was going to offer. Apparently the owner just wanted it out of his driveway and took the first offer. I was pissed at myself for weeks for not going over sooner.

This thread has made me decide to drive past the one I mentioned and see what's up... I'll report, tomorrow... Answer will probably be the same as it was 15 yrs ago: "gonna fix it up one day..."  ::)

if i had a dollor for all the times ive heard that i would be able to pay someone to drive by all the chargers lol. i cant hate these people for that but at the same time i hate seeing a car wasting away.

Got a pic of a 3rd gen I saw at the shop awhile back.   Missing front fenders, might have to check on it; it's at either a mechanic's shop or a body shop.  I only saw it on a drive by.

I found my '70 abandoned in a storage lot and paid $500 for it...the whole story is too long to tell here but took 9 months of work to get the title.

Seems like car fanatics the world over spend their time searching for a bargain car, only to find the owner won't sell cos one day "he's gonna do it up"

Here's a couple of pics of a sought after Pacer that was sitting under a tree not far from me for many years.

Of course it aint for sale.. it'll just sit there until it's no longer saveable.

Gotta love a '69

Bob T

Thats a shame, VG Hardtop Pacers are thin on the ground as well , yup a common enough theme of " nup, no sale , gonna do it up" and they just let it return to mother earth. .. mate of mine has a real cool Bondi bleach one , got a 6pk too  :coolgleamA:

Chased this relic for many years until the owner finally allowed me to shovel it up out of his lawn and drag it home..... vcode, 4spd, 4:10 car to boot..... unfortunately it didnt take me long to realise it was way to far gone for my abilities so now it resides in Canada with someone who can afford to take on the task.. I would call the owner every spring and every fall for about 15 years , sometimes he would yell at me and slam the phone down sometimes he would talk my ear off, well one fall about 4 years ago I called and he angrilly got on the phone and said I will sell you the car because I am sick of you bothering me about the damn thing....... Checked on that 3rd gen that is within a mile from me.  Still parked at the back of the property..  Was a 5th wheel in front, so I couldn't really see it, but they are building new houses behind the house now, so I got a peak from the back.  Just sitting...   :icon_smile_dissapprove: :eek2:

Got the title to the 67 today. She's a parts car...giving her life so the 66 can live on. Checked out a 72 in Gainesville area. Car was solid on the bottom, bottom panels a little rust and the trunk and deck lid were rusty. Crazy interior. Was on Craigslist and had the kids go take pics.

Yep, I've checked alot on parked Chargers (and other cars) since before I was old enough to drive back in the late 70's..
It ultimately payed off when I checked on an abandoned 68 R/T under a car cover at a vacant house in southwest Fresno about
6 years ago...I got in touch with the guy and drove it home for under $3500... :coolgleamA:

Been about another year, I was in the neighborhood of 'Sleeping Beauty,' figured I drive by just for the heck of it....  She's back!

Unfortunately I don't drive for work anymore, so I can't check on her like I used to.  One of these days I need to get some balls and go knock on the door.  Poor car is getting quite weathered.

Who remembers the Dark green 70 R/T Charger R code hemi 4spd.car W/ tan interior and slots that sat rotting in Harrington De.1 of 42 cars built ( orig motor gone, but had a 440 in it )The car sat for many years in this old colored mans front yard, he would not sell for years, finally sells the car to someone i know for $900, :eek2: it changed hands a few times, then i could have bought it in 95-96 for $6,000 , to much at the time considering that is what i paid for a near perfect 70 RR. years later i saw the car in Hemmings for $10,000 from a know Mopar dealer in De. the car was sold and went to New York. This is the car with the bullet holes in the back from being involved in a chase in Dover DE., the cop that was involved is friends of our family who told us the story.

Ghoste

Wasn't there a red 70 Charger with a bullet hole in the rear glass too?  Or maybe I'm mixing stories and Chargers.  I definitely remember a 70 bullet hole tale though, may have even been a magazine feature?

GOTWING

I only know of this car, as i used to visit with the old man and talk to him, he did have several other chargers all over his property at the time, they are all gone now.

Well I am shocked!  On Tuesday I stopped to see Tim a friend of mine that has a 1969 Charger 500 that he parked in a barn in 1983 and it has sat there ever since.  He said the original owner contacted him a couple of weeks ago and he wants it back AND TIM SAYS HE WILL SELL IT!  He said he planned on restoring it but here it is almost 30 years later and he hasn't touched it.

The first time I saw that black 70 R/T that grdprx posted was about 1997. At the same house, which is maintained in about the same condition as the car. I'd venture to guess that 10,000 people have left a notes or knocked on his door by now, so you'd be #10,001 to get turned down.

And, yes. I check up on Chargers and other cars too. Met a lot of great people over the years, some of which have become my friends, and only a few grumps.
