Jon @ Tube Chassis Designz called me on Friday and says "on your way down to the show today, why don't you swing in, I have something I want you to see".

It's a 1967 Hemi Belvedere WITH 43 MILES ON IT, documented.

The motor is out, and the car is being converted to a full blown drag car, but wow, what a pc of history.

And yes, the 43 miles were put on 1/4 mile at a time..

Enjoy!!

jb666

Grabbed these shots of Jon's car on my way out.. He was headed to the track for a weekend of racing!!

And here's a little "assistance" he got for his buddy..otherwise known as 'the fat kid'.

bull

I hope that's not one of those Belvadere GTX factory Hemi cars. If so, you're right, it would be a very, very rare piece of history and they're getting ready to junk it.

I don't know that they are about to "junk it". The original motor is history. He's putting some massive 600+ CI Hemi under the hood in it's place. Other than that, a modern cage and a few other goodies are going in it's place.

That's not even an RH23 car like discussed in the memo. That's an RL21 car.

The white books list two known 67 RL21 cars; one four speed and one automatic. Is this the automatic car?

Also, I don't know my 66-67 Plymouths that well. Is this really a '67 or is it a '66? According to the White book, there were 136 1966 RL21 Hemi cars shipped and 50 RO21 Hemi S/S cars.
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

1966 Plymouths had two headlights whereas 1967s had four.  I believe that's the easiest way to distinguish them.

And the tail pannel was different as well.

Galen barely speaks to Mark because he modified a 65 Belvedere into a race car. Said they were rare, building each one was different due to strikes. This Hemi car is extremely rare from what is being said here.

Here's a pic that a friend sent Jon today (original owner) of this very car at the track in 1967!!!!

jb666

Ok, I just talked to Jon. It's being built like a stock eliminator car... Frame connectors, roll bar, a Jericho 4 speed, wiring, plumbing, fuel system. not even 1/2 tub..NOTHING to the body.

The original motor was put into a Dart back in 1968... And back then , even being 1 or 6, this was called a "mule car", and it wasn't an issue yanking the motor back then.... This was the predecessor to the superstock Cudas and Darts...

jb666

Also meant to mention it came as a stick car...

Here's the tag...

A383Wing

So I take it it's the real Hemi deal? And they are gonna do stuff to it that should not be done?  :RantExplode:

1 of 1, eh?

jeryst

Wow. The sheer ignorance of some people amazes me.

That is probably the lowest documented mileage car of that type in existence, let alone already being an extremely rare car.

It belongs in a museum, not on some track.

If they put it back to original, they could sell it at BJ for enough to buy several race cars.

Thanks for posting that. I notice the right side of the tag doesn't show up. A couple of questions please...does the SO number start wtih 51? Is there a 9 Under the y on the top line? The reason I asked is the Judy Lilly car is also a 67 RL21 car and was comparing the two tags.

interesting dilemma.

whats cooler...putting it in a glass box or racing it?

RACING IT. ....thats what its for...but 'restore it' to its ORIGINAL RACING CONFIGURATION and race the shit out of  it as a 'nostalgia' car. dont junk it up with a bunch of modern crap...thats what Chevies are for.

doing a nice 11 in it with a 4 speed and a 'old' hemi is like 100000000 times more badassed than doing an 8 with new shit.

but..still better to let it run than sit behind glass.

Aero426

If it's as rare as claimed, and original as it looks, it would be extremely short sighted to make modifications to any original intact factory drag car beyond how it raced in period.

The restoration work on the Judy Lilly car and paint was done at the shop that is doing my Charger. Stripmasters / Pure Muscle Restoration/ They didn't do the engine that was done and then placed in the car later.

:P I'm glad to hear they're not planning to carve on it but still, one blown tire and a trip into the wall at 98 mph and it is junked. This is bad. I hope they rethink this.
