Went out today to a buddy's shop and checked out this cool Charger that was sitting there.  Its a 1971 Hemi in good shape with low mileage.  How many of these do you think were made?   :drool5:

i don't think that's where the S.E. emblem goes though,..  :scratchchin: looks like a decent car to want...

i saw this in the parking lot at Fremonts' mopar alley show about six years ago... it was as interesting to me as any car in the show proper... four speed pistol grip too..  :yesnod:  :drool5:

71-72 had special edition emblems on the sailpanel, 71's had a small SE emblem there.  Curious to know why he put 72 style special edition emblems on there

Is that triple black one a Hemi or 440? I thought there was one they drove of Tim's in the Musclecar episode that was a 440.

nope.  that is why i want to see the VIN to make sure its a real hemi car and not a clone.  dont think anyone would put SE badges on a real hemi car.. but ya never know.

i think the wing is okay, but the driver's side mirror is a non-rallye type, which if it ever did make it onto a R/T car is just fricken amazing in my eyes.  again, not saying it couldnt happen, but I dont believe it EVER happened.  those type of mirrors were saved for the coronets (since they became 4 doors), not for the chargers if my memory serves me correctly.

Compare the wing on the black Charger against the wing on the car that Brock posted. That may help answer the question. ;)

All I know is, when I talked to Tim Wellborn he told me he needed a White, Black, and Gold 71 Hemi Charger to complete his collection that would mean he had one in every color made. However, this was back in 2006 (Carlisle) he may have found those since then?

How come the "R" is the only letter/numeral that seems pronounced?   :shruggy:

taking from stu's site:

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
These 13 characters together make up the vehicle's VIN. The VIN is also located on a metal tag
that is riveted to the dash, stamped on line 1 of the fender tag and is on a decal that is placed on
the inside of the driver's door. In 1971, the VIN is stamped on the engine, transmission, and the
last 6 are stamped on the radiator support and on the cowl (driver's side).

Box 1 Car Line: 1971 Make & Price Class which is a combination of the following two letters:

W - Coronet Family (Charger became part of the Coronet family in 1971)
S - Special Price Class; WS = Charger R/T
P – Premium Price Class; both WP = Charger 500 and WP = Charger SE
H - High Price Class; WH = Charger Custom
M - Medium Price Class; WM = Super Bee
L - Low Price Class; WL = Charger Coupe (rear windows are stationary)
Box 2 Body Type: 23 - 2 door Hardtop
21 - 2 door Sedan (coupe); only applies to the WL21 Charger Coupe
29 – 2 door Sport Hardtop – designates the Charger SE (WP29) vs. Charger 500 (WP23)
Box 3 Engine: R = 426 ci 2X4bbl, 425 hp; other engines for a Charger R/T:
U = 440 ci 4bbl, 370 hp
V = 440 ci 6bbl, 385 hp
Box 4 Model Year: 1 = 1971
Box 5 Plant: A = Lynch Road; the only other plants that built 1971 Chargers:
E = Los Angeles
G = St. Louis
Box 6 Sequential Number: each plant started at 100001 for the model year

this is why I asked about the VIN... it CANNOT be a XP.  Does anyone else see the X on the VIN there?
