I am selling my car and I have seriously been looking at a 1973 Dodge Charger SE.. guy says all numbers matching with a 400ci BB.. i have never owned a charger before but two of my friends and there dad do. Ive always wanted one.. i love these cars and I love working on older cars.. so I'm asking people that have owned/do own these cars.. would this be a good idea for first time charger owner? or should I just delete the ad out of my favorites? here is a link to it. http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/cto/1753435561.HTML

any information is helpful. and i hope to one day be driving one of these beauties.

bottom line, if you are in a position financially to attain the car, and you want the car, you get the car.   :Twocents:  :2thumbs:

Post up pics so we can get a feel for the shape it's in and we'll help you decide.  ;D

1973 Dodge Charger Se project car - $1000 (Port Orchard)

selling my charger. bought car two years ago as a project. was supposedly a running car shortly before i bought it but i wanted to rebuild it so i started taking it apart and ran out of money and now has just been taking up space in my garage so just wanna sell it and move on. still a rolling chassis but doors, fenders, interior, hood, trunklid removed . all fasteners and such bagged and tagged. very good start for a project. body in good shape. no bad rust areas. all numbers matching car. original drivetrain including 400ci big block. can be towed. very good foundation for a project but will take some work to get back on the road. missing windshield and wiring harness. I DO NOT HAVE THEM. other than that all original components there. THIS IS A PROJECT. i believe this to be a very fair price for a real muscle car glad to answer any questions.

he had more pics but i cant seem to find them.. on the seat he had a intake that fits 2 4 barrel carbs? my friend said they didnt make one for a 400CI but i think either hes right or hes just jealous and wants the intake..

$1000 and you don't have it yet!!!!!!  Get off this puter and go get it right now! It's gonna be gone pretty quick.

How did I not catch that one :slap:

Do some research on the difference between 71/72s & 73/74s.  There are more than you think.  Once you decide on a preference, a four hour drive might not be so bad.

Happy hunting.

well you guys convinced me.. as long as my car sells in time i think i may just go pick it up.. IMO i think i could get the engine redone and running without spending ALOT of money.. could be wrong but if i get the 2k i want for my car ill have about 900 left after getting the car and paying for the tow. although probably SHOULD get a window in if i wanna be allowed to drive it.. o and the wiring harness. soo i unno.. maybe someone has an idea how much the wiring harness.. and how much itd cost to hmm. i unno.. if the pistons ARE good how much itd cost to just go through the enine and redo it or w/e or how much a whole rebuild kit for a 400 would be. hope all this made sense. once i blow through that money though ill be normal person and be slowly building it back to glory :D

Wicked72

Depends on how much wiring you need. The charger I just got was on fire at one time so i have to replace all of it from under the hood and into the dash but I decided to replace every bit front to back. A company called Painless makes a complete harness for around $500 just to give you an idea. as far as the engine.. well the 400 is a turd even for a fresh rebuild. but if you have good compression and it doesnt have a ton of miles and the oil doesnt seem burned you might be able to get away with alot and maybe just slap a new intake and carb and your set. However the 400 has a ton of potential!!! My car is also a bigblock car and still has the 400. I am build it into a 512ci beast! Finding a good shop to build it would cost around $8k or more depending on the parts. If you do it your self it would be a bit cheaper of course. a stock rebuild I would think $2k maybe alot less of a shop. I got lucky, I have a close family friend that building my engine for $6500 turn key, he gets the parts insane cheap and just charges labor. :2thumbs:
