I cant verify that for the 77's, but in 76 the 460 could be ordered with the stroke of a pen on any Ford pickup back then. I almost ordered one when I ordered my F150 back then but I settled for a 390. I couldnt see spending the extra money. I wish I would have in the long run but the 390 did run good. If I remember right it was something like another $235 over the 390 engine.

My father in law has the same truck. 77 half ton  460.  Its go 50xxx original miles. Looks like its brand new. Buried in his garage. I been around 13 years and have never seen it on the street.

I am ceertainly no Ford truck guy but it was my understanding a 460 in a half ton is not real common.

A old family friend bought a '74 Ford half ton short box brand new back in '74, with the police 460 4bbl & a posi rear end (390 gears I think). He even wanted a 4spd in it, but Ford would not give him a warranty on the drive train if they gave him the 4spd. So, they offered him a heavy duty automatic with a dealer installed shift kit, with a full warranty. So, that is what he went with. To this day, the truck only has less then 50,000 original miles on it. He installed when new some 15x10 aluminum slots all the way around with all terrain tires in the back, and let me tell you, it is the fastest truck I ever been in (it's scary fast). It will sit and smoke the rear tires off it all day long. It maybe gets out on the road once or twice a year now.

That 460 will pull anything that you can hook onto if you have enough traction. It will also pass anything but a gas station.
