A 68 Charger story

Charger Steve

Every car has a different story and this is the story of mine. I bought my 68 Charger in 1972, a one owner car with a 383, 727 auto with console, power everything including a.c. and 27,000 on the odometer. After driving it a short time on the street I modified it for drag racing. The engine was bored .060 over and all the hi-po parts were added to get it to run 12 sec. 1/4 mile times. I raced it through the 70's and then quit racing in 1979. At this time I put the car in storage and did not drive it anymore. The car sat in storage, always covered and garaged, for over 20 years untill I decided to restore it back to original in 2002. It was painted back to it's original bronze mettallic color and all the original parts I removed and saved were put back on. The restoration was completed in 2005 and now is a consistant show car winner and is a car I can drive anywhere. It is not as fast as it once was but is still fun to drive. It has 37,000 miles on it now and looks as original as the day it left the factory. Driving my charger brings back memories of my youth and after owning it for 33 years it is a member of the family and I could never sell it. Someday my son will inherit this car and the saga will continue.

Ya Steve, welcome to the site and all but we're gonna need to see some pics of your car.

I'll bet you are glad you held onto it for all of those years.

That's way cool that you've held onto it all these years & that you actually restored it too! Fantastic!

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Great story!

My 72 has the same color combo as the one my Dad bought band new when I was 6. We ALWAYS had a Charger until I was 12 years old! (2 69's and a 72).

To have the same car for 30 plus years is awesome.....you surely did not let "taht one get away!!".

That's an awesome color! My favorite color Charger!!!! MM-1 rules  :2thumbs:.......................oh wait same color mine is going to be - just a bit prejudice.  :nana:That's an awesome restoration job!

charger steve where are you located?? I'm in LI, NY. That's a sister car to mine. My Charger has the double snorkle thou - a California title car.

Thanks for the pictures now I can print them in photo paper and tell my wife that the progress on my Charger is going well - almost done! Just the undercarriage needs to be painted and that the special paint for the undercarriage has a long lead time.

Thanks for all the compliments. Yes my car is a base Charger and not an R/T so it never came with the stripe. I have tried to make this car look as it originial as it was so I have added nothing that is not correct. I wish it was an R/T with a hemi but that is not what it is so a base Charger with just a 383 is what I restored it as. Keep in mind this car was stripped of everything it didn't need to drag race over 30 years ago and now is as it original as it once was.
