Guinness good for you - official

The old advertising slogan "Guinness is Good for You" may be true after all, according to researchers.

A pint of the black stuff a day may work as well as a low dose aspirin to prevent heart clots that raise the risk of heart attacks.

Drinking lager does not yield the same benefits, experts from University of Wisconsin told a conference in the US.

Guinness was told to stop using the slogan decades ago - and the firm still makes no health claims for the drink.

The Wisconsin team tested the health-giving properties of stout against lager by giving it to dogs who had narrowed arteries similar to those in heart disease.

They found that those given the Guinness had reduced clotting activity in their blood, but not those given lager.

They say that stuff tastes better in Ireland than what we get overseas.

I had always assumed that was B.S. until I was in Ireland one time and tried it.  They're right, it really is better there.

Guiness is awesome, but I have to be in the mood for one. A few of those will really fill you up. On tap is the best, but they've managed to get that drought type in cans & bottles with the plastic thingy to taste pretty good compared to some beers.

Guinness is my favourite "luxury" beer in the sense that I couldn't drink it all the time. It fills me up too quickly.
My regular, everyday, barbecue-time beer is Canadian, but I'm starting to test other, small batch beers that are more regional in nature. Like Sleeman or Creemore.

I worked with an English gentleman years ago who swore up and down that a doctor prescribed a pint of Guinness per day to his friend back home for a stomach ailment.
It worked, according to his friend. I believe it.

I've always thought that Guinness is good for you. 12 Guinness at one sitting, not so much.

Yeah, definitely not a beer designed to swill in large quanties/short time periods. :icon_smile_big:

I'll have to have one or three for my b-day tonight though.  :2thumbs:

I gotta Vintage full bottle of Guinnes from the 50's if anybody wants to drink it. Little known fact is Goebel Brewing company in Detroit brewed Guinness for a short time in 1955. A rare can worth $1,000 empty.  LEON.
