champion aluminum radiators

 any opnions ?   I read a couple of threads on this , no definate answers ?   My water pump came a part over the weekend and  killed my stock looking radiator .  My 440 runs hot at high speed sometimes so i figured now is the time to go  aluminum .     Any help ? Fit ? cooling will my factory shroud fit ok ?

Just put a griffin downflow in great fit bolt in no problems. Only had to switch to a smaller fan clutch

Somewhat related I got a fan shroud years ago at Carlise that fits 70 - 72 B bodies, sucks now as it isn't centered very well. But it should work well with the Champion, if the wife lets me get one. :icon_smile_big:

does the 3 row champion radiator need a  smaller fan clutch installed to fit in 68-70 b body's and 70-74 e body's with 440's? looking into new aluminum radiators for my cars. also if i go 3 row on any brand radiator will i need to replace the fan clutch with a smaller one to fit?

Although I can't say for sure on your cars, on my 68 I had to use the Jag clutch to get enough clearance. My rad is an Engineered Cooling Products sold on Ebay and appears to be Very similar to the Champion.

I have a Champion and it's been working out well so far.  I don't have many miles on my car with it yet, but so far my car is running cool at 170 most of the time while driving.   :2thumbs:  Word of caution though.... I tried the 3 core with the 2 12" electric fans, no dice......... I needed to put a mechanical fan on my car and now it's cooling great! :2thumbs:

 I run there 4 core 26 " withbn a 528 hemi no shroud works great, Runs 190 all day long

what was the issue you had with running 2 12'' electric fans with the 3 row?

Temp would spike quickly.  I just did the Hot Rod Power Tour and it cooled very well and stayed at 170 while driving.  At one point, we had to sit in traffic for a while at 92 degrees, and it went up to 205.  Since I have the fans, I'm going to put them back on, but as pushers. 

I could have tried putting a shroud on the electric fans, but since the company said it was good for a 600 hp engine, I kept it as/is.  I needed to get this issue over with before Saturday, so that is why I put the mechanical fan and shroud on it.

I did call Champion last week and they suggested the shroud, but like I said, I needed to get the car on the road.  I'm going to keep the mechanical on it, and just put the electric as pushers and be done with it. :2thumbs:

I just got my 26" Champion radiator, and a new mopar fan shroud from summit, the shroud will fit up perfect to the old radiator, but the champion one, I appears that the metal tabs on the end have been bent the wrong way! Anyone else run into this? The end rails where the shroud attaches to have been bent inward, instead of out, so it makes the  holes on the shroud about 1" to long.......I did just look @ there website, and the photo shows just what I'm talking about. I would assume that I have the correct shroud b/c it fits right up to the oem radiator, any suggestions?????

No "issues"  when I mounted the brackets,  The mounting bolts are short.  I was very careful when drilling and tapping the radiator.  Yes it is close to the core.  If I had more time I would of had them welded on. :2thumbs:

The first champion 3 core I had fit great, unfortunately I accidentally poked a hole in it a couple months ago so I had to replace it.

At this point, Im on radiator number 4 from them because they've all been warped or built differently (causing the fan to hit). I changed to a super short fan clutch and yesterday tried to pop in the latest radiator they sent me (which was "custom built" to my given specs)...its warped and the bolts don't come close to lining up. I'm quite bummed. The first one I had was a great product. I read Stu's thread so I guess Ill try standing on both corners to twist it back. At this point I'm ready to throw the hat in the ring and go with another brand.

Just a word of caution to anyone just now stumbling upon this thread, they were great products...now, not so much.

Words of wisdom, the radiator is a nice piece but the shroud should be used for target practice as its a PIECE OF SHIT ask me how I know!   :brickwall:

Also, the cooling fans are too small for big HP set-ups like my 600 HP 505 stroker, and I will be switching to a mechanical fan  :brickwall:

You have probably seen my link about my 505 ci new wedge engine running HOT thanks to the entire Champion Set-up.  The radiator does the job for big HPpower applications, ONLY when coupled with a PROPER Mopar sytle shroud and better fans (read my 2nd to last post on this very active current thread).
