I'm replacing my starter and found this hole located above the starter in the block of my 318.
I can see the crankshaft through it.
What is it for?

If you can see the crank through that hole,you have a real problem.Also,you couldn't keep any oil in the motor.Better look again. :scope:

whoops looks like I panicked.
What looked like a crank throw in the first picture is just a freeze plug.
