Most of you guys are hard core car guys so this clearly doesn't apply but a sizable number of people of all ages in 2010 have no idea how to cope with a car problem-that's why driving tired old iron should be mandatory for a first car.

Yea, that was close wasn't it.  :smilielol:

Are you saying the link is SPAM that the member posted?

If that's the case, shouldnt it be deleted and the member banned?

If not, I'm sorry for misunderstanding.

Ghoste

Not literally in the sense that you are probably thinking spam.  He starts threads that are nearly always just links to his own site in an effort to move traffic over there.  On rare occasions he has participated in threads here but for the most part he is just trying to bleed users for himself.  Not quite spam maybe but very definitely it is an example of extremely poor internet etiquette.

It is what I would call a "junk" post.    Google the topic and you will find that he posts the same thing on umpteen different message boards.   As mentioned, it appears to be solely to drive traffic to his site.

Ok, so I have been just ignoring posts by this guy for the exact reason you post above. Why did I visit today?? I'm bored or in a rut or something... anyhow, leads me to wonder why this guy isn't just booted?

Would a Moderator mind commenting on the validity of this type of "member". It would seem a lot like raw advertising to me? Ok, I get that the occasional member posts up about their business or whatnot. However, the difference seems to be a complete lack of intent on the part of the poster to engage in bettering this community. (dc.com)

Sorry if this has been hashed out already.

Sorry guys-I'll stop sending you to links on my site.If it softens the blow, I'm a huge Mopar guy so feel free to drop by the site (on your own accord) occasionally. At least I didn't push something that wasn't car related-I've seen some odd spam myself.
cheers

Well, FWIW I thought the article was decent. Can't say I disagree with the notion of owning a couple more classic Mopars for the kids to drive. Maybe an old Dart or Valiant. :shruggy:

This is why I'm not against this particular 'member's posts. Despite the fact that his goal is to bring traffic to his site, his posts take nothing away from this site, IMO usually bring something interesting to the members of this site, and although I don't find his site intensely interesting, it costs me nothing to look at it. If he profits, still it costs me nothing so it's win-win.

Poking fun at spam and junk is fun though, and he opens the door to make himself an easy target.

The article may be decent and he may be a Mopar guy but it is still in poor taste to try and syphon traffic away.  This site can hold it's own and many of us (including yours truly) include links to other sites in our sigs.  Some of us are very involved or even administrate other sites and yes, there is even some out and out spam that slips through.  But only one of us (currently) has almost all of his posts as a new thread with a suggestion in the opening of the topic to go over to his site.  Perhaps the blow would be "softened" if there was more participation here and only occasional requests to go to your own site.
In any case I'm not the admin or a mod here, just another member freely expressing my opinion.  :Twocents:

Poor taste, false pretense, no participation-all agreed-but how is he siphoning traffic away? Who has so little time that they see less of this site due to looking at his?
I would like to see more participation, as it looks like there may be something to offer-but maybe no Chargers? Dunno, certainly not an argument but I just don't see the pain.

To each his own, it doesn't pain you and obviously it doesn't pain Troy either.  It pains me so I whined about it as is my privilege.  :icon_smile_wink:

It's not that the topic isn't relevant (although they are all very generic).   It's the manner in which he goes about it.

Ghoste

Here's my take on it just so that everyone (including the OP) realizes that my whining isn't done to sway anybody (including the OP) to my point of view.
I look at this site as a big car club and we are having a meeting and just as in real life, we are all standing around in little groups yapping about this and that.  Some groups are talking about painting, some about cars in general, some about immigration issues.  It's all cool but one night, a guy comes into the clubhouse and says, "hey I like your cars but I have my own club across the street where we're discussing       so why don't you all come over there and check it out".  This is fine, there is a lot of room on the scene for a whole bunch of different car clubs.  But later on, the guy shows up again and basically says the same thing.  And then he does it a few more times.  Now if someone wants to go across the street and hang out, it's no sweat off me.  People come and go all the time but me, I (obviously) really really like it here so after a bunch of times hearing this guy ask me to come over and check out his car club and he really hasn't hung around much here to participate at all mI sort of rolled my eyes and said "give it a rest already".  Albeit in a slightly different way.
It really isn't all that different from a face to face encounter for me in many ways.
As mentioned though, I'm not trying to sway anyone because I don't even see it as an argument.  Just me voicing an opinion about something.  If want to try and change minds I will go to the off topic section (where I very rarely participate) because it's easy to find ignorant people who are blatantly WRONG over there.  :D
But I come to talk cars for the most part so I apologize to all for my part in dragging this one waaaaaay off topic.

elacruze

I'd say it's precisely ON topic...

Car guys, right?

Why do I feel naughty?

Yes I admit this is clearly a traffic stimulating strategy but we do have reciprocal agreements with forums and clubs where they post events and links to their sites-it's been really well received and clearly I would have no problem doing up a DodgeCharger.com link page.Hopefully somebody gets in touch with me about that.
On the Charger side, we have quite a few things coming up including one of the rarest 70 Chargers in the world-the owner is a pretty good buddy of mine. That one and any other pertinent Charger stuff, I'll just send the link to your mods and they can paste it with no link to MSCC if they decide it has a value .
We focus on everything but I'll confine this to Charger specific stuff at the discretion of your mods under the guidelines above. For the record-we talk about all cars but it's all Mopar for me personally.
