Biggest wheels (backspace) to fit on a 3rd gen??

I hate to ask this since it's so common but me and the seach feature just do not get along.

Anyway, I'm about to blow some coin on Crager SS' for the '72. I want the classic deep dish on the rear and standard up front. The wheel and tire place recommended an 8 inch rim  for the rear, but I'm thinking I will not be able to get the real "deep dish" look without going to '10 rims. So I'm looking for guidence, will a 10 inch fit? and if so what back/front spacing will I need? Tire combo?

Thanks in advance

I think the best you can do is search for the old PaulG's thread when he owned the broze Rallye. He posted there lot of info and pics about wheel fitment on 3rd gens.

ThanksHow come when I use the search all I get is page after page of junk? Like if I type "wheels 3rd gen" in the topic I get all kinds of stuff, usually for sale ads. I must be doing it wrong.

It was easy once Natcho gave the OP of the thread. I did a search for "PaulG" and found the thread. Otherwise I would have done a "3rd gen backspace" search or something like that and then waded through a couple pages to find it too. You aren't doing it wrong.

That thread was gold! Looks like 15x8 is the biggest I can safely go without mods or risk

Thanks guys

I run cop car rims on my 74. The rears were widened to 15x10 with a 5.25" backspace and I run a 295/50 tire. The outside of the tire is almost even with the quarter panel and my rear end is jacked up. I like the look myself.

AKcharger

Oh, there is No Doubt a 15x10 looks awesome, problem is I don't want to jack it. I did that with my '70 for a bit  a few years ago but changed it back after a few weeks after it scraped the tires with people in the back and returned to stock wheels. I found what I tolerated when I was 17 and what I tolerate now has changed a bit

My '70 when I was 17 ( look past crashed motor cycle)

My  new '70...well for a few weeks anyway

Now

It's offical, 8X15 is the widest unless you have 51/2 + backspace, I found out the hard way  :icon_smile_angry:
