How many folks here are running cars with the original engines still in them?  Further to that, are you SURE it's the original engine and if it is, do you beat it?
My car does not have the original in it, but I do have what I believe to be the original for it.  Little harder to tell with a 67 but at least the casting date corresponds to the rest of the car.

No chance of getting it back huh?

I have no idea if mine is original being a 68.
Although its a 318 with a 67 date block and a 67 vehicle build date I'm assuming its original and I beat on it all the time.

PocketThunder

   I just got it back together from a professional rebuild.  I wont say i dont beat on it, but i dont drive with and egg between my foot and the pedal either..   :D   :coolgleamA:

The 69's MIA 440 was last known to be running around in a 1/4 mile drag car in the Chicago area in the late '80's. :'(

The 68's original 383 engine and trans is tucked away in my shop. I pulled it out because I installed a 440 and then another cheap 383 I found....next stop is 5.7 Hemi.

I will get my original #´s matching engine and transmission in this summer maybe, those are still in there in USA. I got those with car, but those stayed there to wait transportation. But my Charger is XP code car, so I won´t never put them back to my Charger  :nana:

The 440 is now in my '69 and that particular 383 is not very impressive. Too late anyway as the "crate" is already at the shop.  :woohoo: I am shooting for a nice 25mpg cruiser anyway.

Me, I wanted a stroker for my '70 Charger, and there was no way I was using the original #'s motor.

I may pull the stroker and put it my other #'s Charger though, as she's a plain jane '69 SE.

If I do, then the original motor will be rebuilt back to stock and put back in the '70

I do remember being rather hard on the #'s motor for the '70 before it was pulled.

And the #'s hp 383 in the '69 gets worked now and then.

I do try and keep in mind the originality when I'm running her though.

I have the original 400 in mine. It's seen north of 6000rpm a couple times before I installed the rev limiter and 5500rpm almost everytime I take it out now with the limiter.

I am with factory engine... sleeved but still the factory one.

Sleeved just because I couldn't find locally 040 or 060 pistons, so had to sleev to mount standart pistons from a donor engine. On those days I didn't know all the ppl I do know to find oversized ones.

No chance of getting it back huh?

well when i first got my charger early 89, i asked Bill ( second owner )
http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,63970.0.html
why the motor was turquoise , & not orange , he said the original R/T motor was blown up when he got the car 1985 , so i put this one in   , was still a E series 440 , but casting date too late !
being 17 at the time was no real biggie as the motor that was in there ran strong !  ,  also looked stock  & just needed to be painted orange!  & was just soo excited  to finaly get the charger i wanted ! , then after reading the new mopars mags that came out  , started thinking , hmmm wonder where my matching motor is , so i wrote to Bill  no answer ! had sent me  some old pictures before  ,   phoned a few times also , but  phone line dead !
all this happened about late 89 ,  so never bothered any more , but since doing a nut & bolt resto & the internet coming along , have emailed a few mopars being sold on ebay around that area with a NOM 440 in there  asking whats the vin stuff like that!! but it could be any where now :'(
