a forum dedicated to the concept challenger.... how queer?

I was cruising around on google and thought, "hell, let me see if i can find the dodgecharger site."   So i typed in dodge charger forum and the first site that pops up is a 2006 charger forum.   I click on it and started browsing in there and then come across a thread to the concept challenger, which leads me to a forum dedicated to the concept challenger.

Now I am not saying that it shouldnt be there, just thought the whole idea was kinda premature.   a forum dedicated to the concept challenger, and no, i have not joined.

it could be worse, I stumbled across a website forum dedicated to the Dodge Omni once :rotz:  :eyes: There is a forum out there for everything!
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't fix your brakes, but don't worry I made your horn louder."

Shakey

Think about how many posts were flyin' around here with regards to the new Charger prior to the launch in May 2005.   Probably had enough content to start a specific message board with all of that also.

Hey RD, don't offend the queers now!   :icon_smile_big:

lol shakey, i didnt mean it in that context *snicker snicker*   :P  :icon_smile_big:

I am glad to see the interest, hopefully Daimler will see that ther is a market for the two door rear wheel drive retro car.  I only wish they would have done with the Charger what they have done with the Challenger concept.

If anyone here actually thinks that DC is going to honestly take anyones opinion from any of the classic car sites on the internet to heart in there own designs then you've got to be delusional.

They didn't take anyones opinion here (and dodge-charger.com was one of the most popular sites at the time of the new charger development)

Why would they take the opinions from any of the other newer sites???

DC is going to build this thing the way Mercedes tells um too . Simple as that

Did it occur to you that perhaps that is exactly what DCX is doing. Their research & development department most likely came up with the "Challenger forum" idea to test the waters. What better way to find out than to listen to the chatter about the new Challenger concept. "hmmm,  how can we find out what will really sell out there? What is that they are exactly looking for?   :scope: :scratchchin:

HEY, weren't you gearheads LISTNENING; there is no market for a 2-door RWD car.

"'05 Mustang roars to 47 percent sales gain"

Sales of the Mustang are up 47 percent through the end of May over what they were last year before the redesign. The redesigned car is selling better than Chrysler's popular 300 sedan. It also is outselling 13 brands, including Scion, Saturn, Mercedes-Benz and Subaru.

=====================================================

FORD TO INCREASE MUSTANG PRODUCTION TO MEET RUNAWAY CONSUMER DEMAND

Ford today announced that it will take production of the hot new
Mustang to more than 192,000 units in 2005 â€" an increase of more than
70 percent, or 80,000 units, from the previous year.

http://www.carmemories.com/cgi-bin/viewexperience.cgi?experience_id=957

======================================================

If you come, they will build it.

But thanks to a fervently faithful crowd of Mustang owners of which Ford was previously unaware, the past unraveled along a different timeline. Deep passions fueled a very vocal, angry campaign to stop the blasphemy before it could begin. It worked: Mazda's creation instead came to life (and death) under the name of Ford Probe, and even if the 1979-engineered Mustang lived on with the same skeleton for many years, at least it lived.

Once again...don't flatter yourselves.

It takes about a year to get a car from drawing board to concept.  It's been less then a year since drawings of the Charger were released and WAY less than a year since the Charger started full production.  This car's been around for a good deal longer than that.

This car was planned for a good deal of time BEFORE the Charger was introed.

I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

Interesting how that is developing.  Set up public forums about your product to promote it and people will fall in line to discuss the product and you get feedback.  Set up another forum about a POTENTIAL product to see how the potential customer will recieve it.

DCX should have gotten thier heads out of thier asses years ago and built a 2-door RWD retro-styled car before the market goes away.  Dumb asses.

OH, for the record, I do like the look of the Chagnum.  They should have built a F***ing Charger.

Possibly, how long do you think it takes for a design team to look at photos of a Challenger and turn those into a concept drawing.  I'd guess about 30 minutes...

TK, you're smarter than that.   You know it aint even CLOSE to that easy.

Here's an example.

The Challenger rides on a modded version of the LX platform (116" VS 120" wheelbase).   That ALONE takes up a fair amount of time and money.   Then, if the car is definitely going to be produced, you have to do a feasibility study AND figure out if the damn thing will even meet safety standards.   Couple this with having to hand-form all body panels, interior, shorten drivetrain, etc, and you've got yourself one hell of a time consuming project.

Personally, I think DCX is making a HUGE mistake building a retro-styled car.   Its nice now, but what happens in three years when everybody's got one and the "retro-mystique" wears off.   Think it can't happen?   Ford's not building T-birds anymore.   PT Cruiser sales are flat and not going anywhere, new beetle sales are doing the same thing...and no one can seem to figure out how to restyle the damned things.   Once you go retro, you're locked in to retro.

Remember, there was no '75 Challenger and the '76 was a Fwd Mitsubishi.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

They're averaging 30 to 40 people on line at once. That's not bad for a car that isn't even built yet...for the public that is.  :shruggy:

Doesn't necissarily mean anything.  Most cars experiance a jump in sales over the previous year, after a redesign.  Partly due to the fact that people hear about the redesign, through media sources, so they decide to wait a year to buy the car, instead of buying now.

Really? Do most cars experience a 47% increase? Just wondering.

In the case of the Mustang it might also have something to do with the fact that none of the special models were available in the first year. They did release the convertible a little early (supposed to be an 06 model release). They probably did this to cash in on the summer weather but I haven't really studied it too much.

I beleive troys point was simply this. Where did you hear that most cars had a increase of sales over the previous year? Last time i checked car designs were changed because sales sucked! Henry Ford originally reluctantly changed his design from the model T's extremely long production run because they didnt sell. Other companies started using more colors and had less boxy designs, so sales suffered and the design had to change.

Do you look this stuff up and just get terrible information? or just pull it out of the air somewhere????

Re: Dodge Challenger Design Chief Speaks Out.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes - we need to let DCX know so that they will bring this car back! I own a Daytona, but have wanted a Challenger or Cuda for years. If they do the Challenger right, it may impact the sales that Charger is now enjoying.

As much as I love my Charger - If they do anywhere close to the same quality job on the Challenger, I'd trade in a heartbeat. It would be nice if they included even more of the muscle car features as standard (read BIG Hemi!)

I didn't go for the SRT8, because I was rationalizing this great 4-door as more of a family car. (And I couldn't wait!) The (2 door), beefier Challenger would hopefully be an even stronger contender against the Ford and Chevy products.

I don't want another Mustang, Camaro, Vette, etc. I've had several over the years. The Charger is so close (even good enough!), but that Challenger concept car! Even a new Camaro would be more of what we've had for around 40 years. You bump into them all the time.

When was the last time you drove by a Charger? (Before 2005..)

A new and improved Challenger - with lessons learned from the very cool Charger? Count me in!

Anybody read this guys post? wtf kinda stuff is he smoking.

FYI...that magazine article's only about 9 months old.
Oh.
Where did you see it first & why did it take so long for me to see it? :ahum:

And don't say it was because I'm asleep at the wheel. :icon_smile_tongue:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Talking with other people at carshows, dealerships, etc.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

my only problem with the retro cars is that from a design standpoint, where do they go from there? Whats the next Mustang gonna look like? A modern version of this?:

you know i honestly never thought about that, but you are right.   where do they go from there?   They have two options, follow the past or make a new future.   hopefully it will be the latter (i know it will be).   But by going retro, they do put some limitations on future designing.

There is some truth to this theory. However, keep in mind the original Challenger only lasted 5 years with the first 2 years being the most sought after. If we get three or four years out of a "retro" Challenger it will definaltely be better than nothing or at least better than the current 4 door offerings from DCX.

Only time will tell on the Mustang's evolution....they did keep the same basic body style from 1979 to 1993 so they have some time to tinker.
