If it was something people were actualy getting excited about and buying up in bunches then it wouldn't say that. It would say something to the effect of "Charger a huge hit. Buyers are purchasing cars faster than they can be produced"

Now that would be a headline!

They could have named it "all the sex you can stand if you buy me" and it still would not have sold.  people just don't like ugly shit.  period.

  Chrysler. We mentioned at the end of last summer that Chrysler, despite the continued positive spin it receives from the automotive media, was sailing toward troubled waters in the fall. The Charger, which we predicted would not be the hit that Chrysler hoped, is proving to be a disappointment. Part of that is the result of Chrysler's relentless drum-beating for the car, which revolved around the assumption (on their part) that it would be a hit of 300/300C proportions. It isn't. Chrysler will trot out all kinds of data to insist that the car is doing pretty well, but based on its promised hype it hasn't delivered. The other problem is that Chrysler is in "wait for the new stuff" mode. Its new Jeep entries and its smaller crossover won't be here until next year, and in the interim the Jeep Commander and the company's reliance on big trucks are hurting them. Chrysler Group slow sellers include the Pacifica, the Dodge Ram and Dakota trucks, the Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Liberty. And because of sluggish sales, there's now a "little" inventory problem too - a 92-day supply to be specific. "Little" from Chrysler's perspective, but for dealers who want no part of Chrysler's solution for it - it's a very big deal. Chrysler Group is offering dealers up to $750 for every extra vehicle they order up to a certain limit. The deals are designed to make Chrysler look good for the end of the year numbers, but for dealers who are in full "ASS" mode (Aren't Selling Shit) with November sales in the single digits - the incentives hold little or no interest. None of this stuff is new to Chrysler dealers, however. Chrysler has had a long history of stock piling inventory and then frantically trying to boost the numbers at the end of the year, no matter at what cost. Drive around a few locations in southeast Michigan here, and you can see where the Chrysler Group parks its inventory - and it's not pretty. We keep hearing about the "new" Chrysler and the "hot" Chrysler and the Chrysler that's supposed to have it all over Ford and GM - its downtrodden Detroit competitors - but this sounds a lot like the same 'ol Chrysler to us. And that's no surprise either.

I'd say that the Chrysler is doing what most car companies could only dream of - attracting young buyers who are willing to pay more for their car!

i did........wifey got a 300 (since her 1999 LHS was in the shop more than our garage) .......and the lease expired on my 03 Ram so I got a 06 Durango.....Not to  :horse: but had the Charger been a 2 door and more sporty rather than sadany (is that a word) we probably would have gotten one instead of the 300. The wife wanted a jeep and we looked at the Liberty but it rode like crap (to be expected I guess cause it is a Jeep) but the price for one reasonably optioned out was within $2000 of a loaded up 300 (without the Hemi and not a C).
Paid $35k CAD w/ leather, sunroof, chrome wheels, heated seats, and a few other extras. The Liberty with cloth seats but sun roof, nice wheels and a few extras was like $32k CAD.......The Durango......well lets just say they are not given those away!

I bought my wife an '05 Daytona Ram Go-mango regular cab two wheel drive with the leather interior. Unfortunately, it gets about 13 mpg and she prefers to drive her TranAm instead. So far the truck has 1800 miles on it since being purchased in June. I take it out of storage each month and drive it a few miles just to keep everything lubed up. I think it's been washed twice since we bought it. I kind of wish that we had bought the SRT10 instead.

Let's just hope that the concept Challenger becomes a REALITY, unlike the concept Charger.  That's one fine-ass looking MoPar!  :yesnod: 

I still feel that if the powers-that-be at Diamler-Chrysler would have gone from the '99 concept to reality on the Charger, sales would be far better and less bitching from us "classic heads".  :icon_smile_blackeye:

I don't understand folks like this.   If I had this truck, I'd drive the damned thing!!!  I prefer the Silver Daytona over the Go-Mango though.

Are you not driving it because you want to keep the miles off of it?   Or are you not driving it because of the MPG issue?

My wife drove the truck for about a month when we first got it. The poor fuel mileage bothered her a little since she was used to getting 25 mpg with her 2000 transam. Also, she didn't like the way that the truck drove. With the short wheelbase and the 20" wheels, it bounced around a lot. One day, on the way home from work, a guy slammed on his brakes in front of her and when she slammed on her brakes the truck literally hopped into the ditch. I think it spooked her a little. I've driven the truck occasionally and I have to admit that it isn't the most pleasant driving truck that I've ever owned and I've owned a lot of trucks, but I love that hemi horsepower. The truck probably won't see a whole lot of miles racked up as long as we own it. We own three new vehicles and didn't really need the daytona.

I also bought a new car this year.  Back in January we got a Pacifica for my Wife.  A four door sedan was not what we were looking for.  I myself, will be in the market for a new car within the next 18-24 months.  I have yet to decide if it will be a 2dr or 4dr.

I asked the question because I hear so many say that they are pissed that Chrysler made the Charger a 4dr.  If they did make a 2dr version, who here would have run out and bought one?

I wouldn't have, but not because I wouldn't have liked it if it looked different. I just don't buy new cars. I prefer to let other people take the intitial negative equity hit and then I buy them when they're a year to five years old and with cash. I would have no interest in a two-door version of the same car if that's what you're asking. The door count on something like that won't make it look any better. "Ugly four door" and "Charger" should not be in the same sentence but thanks to DCX they are.

I woulda bought a 2 dr version instead of the 300 we got had the Charger had a little of the design cues we have seen photochopped into the current version. A little retro styling and 2 doors would have made me take notice. If I had to have a 4 dr the Charger is not one I would consider(obviously since i went with the 300) because it just doesn't blow my skirt up!....it really is too plain looking. No design shock or ingenuity in that car. It gets me as excited as a K car. Its too bad really. When I look at some of the things they have done over the last few years 300C, Magnum, Crossfire, PT Cruiser, Pacifica, they all were unique in design when released.....in my opinion. The Charger is far from unique. Some may say the new Challenger is not unique but rather an updated version on an old design. Maybe so but it will turn more heads and make anyone driving it feel much more excitement than driving around in a 4 dr sedan.

Just my 2 cents......or 1.76 CAD....our dollar is getting closer!!!

This is great as far as purchasing parts from the United States.  I just spent $480.00 USD ($566.00 CDN) last week, and saved a bundle (no shipping, GST or brokerage fees at the border) by picking it up!  I told my Wife I'd be a fool not to be buying all of my parts right now!   :D

2005 1500 4X4 with a HEMI, if you mean who is all talk then not me brother, If it is at all possible I plan on getting a 09 Challenger with a HEMI. I should have the truck paid off by then and I get the new car itch every 4 or 5 years.

Perhaps another question worth posing is, "even if you weren't in the market for a new vehicle this year, how many people did you talk to that were?   How many of those did you try and convince to buy a new Anticharger?   How many people did you trash talk the car to?
Remember, one of the primary reasons for buying anything beyond basic transportation is to satisfy your need to make people look at you.   If the classic Charger heads aren't promoting that car and in fact are bad mouthing it, it only makes prospective buyers go look at something that will impress people.   Now if old Snoppy Dog Dog and Fifty Cents are the kind of celebs you want to emulate, well that's where the initial marketing buzz went didn't it?
The ads spent on trying to woo musclecar fans (after the hip hop flop) just fell on deaf ears for the most part.   It was a pretty intensive ad campaign to only give up "okay" sales.   Think how they'd be if they started in September instead of last March.
