833 overdrive tranny mount question

I am a little confused because I just read somewhere that the '70 B body has the same mount for manual and automatic setups. Is that correct?

If so is it the same mount as a 68/69 automatic and the mounting pad location on the tranny changed? I plan on using a 833OD in my '68 so will I need a '70 tranny brace and mount to work with the later overdrive trans?

Thanks

the manual trans mount location is different then the auto, the 833 od is the same exact case as the standard 833. you do not have to buy a new crossmember, you can easily cut off the plate on top of your auto crossmember to let the 833 mount slide in. i did this on my 69 and it took a whole 5 minutes to do.

Why does Passion list a cross member for 68-69 automatic, another for 68-69 4 speed, and then a third one for 68-69 automatic/70 4 speed? That doesn't really make sense unless a different isolator was used for each in 1970.

Does the start of the E body line have something to do with it?

The isolator or rubber mount is the same, it's the cross member that's different...at least on my 66's, that is

That is what my 69 is like too. I am trying to figure out if anything changed in 1970.  Anyone have a 1970 4 speed car that knows? I can get a measurement off of my 833od to compare.

On my 73 Charger the 4 speed and automatic bolted up with the same mount in exactly the same place. As I recall the dimension to the transmission mount is the same. The interchange ability of the earlier to later automatics say from 1969 to 1975 would lead me to believe that the 833 should bolt up in the same place. The only change would be tail shaft lengths between lets say an  A body and B Body transmission with the B body being the same or very close to the same length as a 727 auto. Grumpy

Good point. I will compare my automatic to the 833od and see if there is a difference.

all of the b body cases are identical whether its an od or not. the auto case mount is in a different location. as i said before its an easy mod to your existing crossmember. when looking at the crossmember you will see that the auto mount goes into the additional part that is welded to the assembly. if you look at the long protion of the crossmember you can see that there is an alignment hole and a stud hole in it but no way to access it because the top of the crossmember has a plate welded over it. you just remove the plate and the 833 mount drops right into place.

I understand what you are saying and was planning to do that until I went to Passion's website and saw the 70 mount listed differently.

It just made me wonder what could be different in 70 that allows the same mount to work for both. :shruggy:

The location of the 833 mount is further back on the tailhousing in '66-'69, in '70 the mount location was moved forward to match the position of the automatics.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks for the info.  Do you know if I need to get the newer isolator or will the '68 automatic setup bolt up with the 833od?
