X pipe without headers

Does having an X pipe exhaust defeat the intended purpose if you don't use headers? I would like to stick with the original exhaust manifolds but have dual exhaust with an X pipe setup from there back. Will I still enjoy some of the benefits of this without installing headers?

Wakko

The X pipe is effective for equalizing pressure between the banks, isn't it?  I would think that it would help out regardless of headers or manifolds.  Plus they sound really mean.  :)

I just put some on mine and my cousin put one on his 289 Ford Fairlane. He says it seemed to help his low end torque quite a bit. I'm still breaking my motor in, but low end seems better, but I have a stall converter, so I don't spend a lot of time at low RPM's. :)

I thought the X pipe was better for upper end power and the H pipe was best for low end torque. Which one is it?

it should work as long as you got dual exhaust, but ive heard they quiet down exhaust instead

The way I understand it they are just different designs with the same goal. Basically I think they are designed to equalize the exhaust back pressure. I asked a while back which is better and both Chryco and 8Wheeler said the X pipe was better.

morepower

It should help an exhaust manifold car better..it helps scavenge exhaust just like headers..and an x pipe is a smoother flowing system than an h pipe thats why it is better, it makes morepower and looks better.
