I spotted this in a 2nd season episode of Emergency. I have watched it several times and you can tell it is a '68 model from the sidemarker. Is this the late "Charger Red" for 1968 similar to R4 in 1969? Mine is orginally PP1 and I want to go brighter.

Thanks

I know but R4 can look orange too. I guess it could have been repainted but this was 1972.

Dude, that looks orange to me.
So does his face.

The 1969 and up R4 looks orange to most people. The late 68 331 "Bright Red" or "Charger Red" depending on the color chart looks similar.

My '68 is painted 331 Charger Red. It is a very strange color. It seems to change with the light also. Sometimes it's a bright blazin' orange, other times,it almost looks blood red. I didn't think I was going to like it at first, but being it was supposed to be on my car,I thought it should be there.....would not have it any other way now..........

Do I spy vinyl top moldings on the quarter, despite the painted roof?

I'm sorry, but it looks like a rectangular marker.  :Twocents:  And as the series was broadcast from '72 through '77 it could easily be a '69 Charger.

Hmmm....I was thinking of going with a white top instead of black but it just doesn't "pop" on that color like I thought it would. Maybe a white stripe would help. I could keep it PP1 red but, I already have the '69 in R6.

First pic is dad driving it in 1986 with a paint job from the mid 70's. I still have those Keystone Mags that were on it then too. It got repainted a darker red in the early '90s and the 2nd pic from 2005 shows that color.

Decisions, decisions. :scratchchin:

No, this picture isn't the clearest but in motion you can clearly tell it is a '68. Plus, the marker is lower in '69. If you look at the shot of my car the marker "dot" is in the same spot as the car in question.

Here is a side shot of my '69 to compare.

:iagree: It's too high for a 69.

68?69? I see two reflections and both are in the wrong place, so I can't tell. :scratchchin:

Did you get so tired of Miami Vice that you had to go really old school with Emergency?

Where's Joe Friday when we need him?

OK, the arrows I added show the marker lights on both of the '68's.

Sorry, my 2 year old loves fire trucks and since they don't make any new shows like that we watch one or 2 a week on Netflix. Having him sit with daddy smiling at the woo woo trucks is pretty special. It just happens that this show was filmed around the timeframe that our cars were roaming the streets so it is interesting for me too.

BTW: Didn't like Miami Vice when it was new and still don't.

Well, if you're going to bring location into it...  O.K., fine. It is a '68.  :icon_smile_blackeye:  I should of realized it right off as the answer to almost any 2nd gen question is 1968.... :D

okay, if we're going of of the marker thing, look futher back, there is almost the same color reflection on the fender  :shruggy:

It is clear if you watch the episode. That is a reflection of something further back on the fender.  I also don't see anything where a '69 marker light should be.  :shruggy:

Looks like Charger Red (331 or r4) to me. I would say with 98 % certainty that its a 68 too.

The Charger my Dad just got was an original 331 Charger red car.

I say shoot it with Charger red!

P.S. I love that show! "Rampart we need saline . Stat!"
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

It's on antenna TV here 5 days a week! Even the rescue truck is a cool Dodge! I've wondered if anyone restored one for shows, I think it would be neat!  :shruggy: Now that I work in the V.A. Hospital I even know what the heck they are talking to "Rampart" about! We get "Adam 12" here too and I look for old cars there also. (Even though my sons could care less!)

TruckDriver

There is one episode where they rescue a guy in a rolled over 3rd gen charger that is a Richard Petty clone car.

my 68 is paint code 331. Depending on the light the color does change from red to almost orange. I do like that color much better then the red they used on earlier 68's. My 68 looks the most like orange when you are dead in the middle between the car and the sun. In the picture you posted the shadows are right at the wheels so the sun should be high in the sky. Use the color if you like it.

That was the General Lee before he was famous! Filling in as an extra on shows before he hit the big time.

heh, heh, heh . .

Seriously, I call that a 68 car with a chrome 'Charger" emblem on the sail panel (not vinyl top trim.)

As for the color - I've given up trying to determine colors based on film in most cases.  Orange is a particularly bad offender.

Look at this.  Same bright red-orange Charger, in front of the same store, in two different people's photos:

alot of these shows had vehicles provided by a particular car co. this one was prolly chrysler by the looks.

been checkin out old charlies angels episodes on TV lately. in credits it has "ford mo co" and sure enough every car goodies or baddies; its some kinda ford old or new (at the time).
beginnings of product placement i guess  ;)
1970 PLYMOUTH SUPERBIRD. 440/6BBL/BENCH/AUTO/VITAMIN C.
1979 FORD RANCHERO GT 351.
1960 AUSTIN HEALEY MK1 BUGEYE SPRITE 1275/4 SPEED.

Mike DC

Steve McQueen's 68 Mustang was a product placement thing in Bullitt.

Ford offered some Fairlaines for the Charger role but the crew turned them down.  They didn't want the show looking so blatantly all-Ford, and they also didn't think the Fairlines could handle the abuse.

Notice the badging was yanked off the Mustangs.  Some were removed the make the two cars match better but others were just because McQueen didn't wanna give Ford any more ad time than he had to.

The Vanishing Point Challys were totally product-placed too.  Chrysler loaned them 5 Challys for the movie and wanted them returned after it was over.  (Hence the 67 Camaro hitting the bulldozers at the end rather than a Chally.)  Of course the Challys were too obliterated to actually use afterwards, but Chrysler didn't realize that was gonna happen initially.

The Mopar cop car rolled over in Vanishing Point was technically an accident during shooting.  The director wanted them to do it but they didn't admit to planning it becuase they were supposed to be returning those cars afterwards.  Notice that the car was rolled with no ramps of any kind and the drivers weren't wearing gear.
