Well, I decided I wanted this car. Not sure why other than its pretty dang cool. Anyway, what you all think? I am having a friend go get the car and make sure that it is road worth, then I am flying up with a few friends and driving her 1000 miles home.

Awesome in about 400 ways. Unlimited potential to keep it original or to hot rod it.

I vote for a screaming Hemi and big slicks. Keep us posted. :2thumbs:

I can never figure out why someone would risk their life to drive an old, unmaintained,
vehicle 50 miles, let alone 1000 miles. Break hoses can collapse or rupture, belts can break,
tires can be dry rotten, fuel lines and gas tank could be full of crud and rust, wheel bearings or
ball joints could be bad, lights may not work, electrical system may have corrosion issues, etc, etc.
Who knows what condition the car was in before it was parked. Maybe it was unable to
pass a safety inspection. Maybe it had serious problems and could no longer be driven.
Time has a way of weakening/destroying mechanical components, that is sometimes not readily apparent.
You can have as many friends with you as you want, but they wont be able to help you if you
veer off a cliff.

I understand your enthusiasm, and I congratulate you on your purchase, but without
first having a qualified mechanic climb all over that thing, I wouldnt drive it on a public highway.

Is your life really worth it?

Thanks for your concern. As I have worked as a mechanic for allot of my life and I am having a mechanic friend pick up the car a full month before I go get it and make sure it is sound, I am not to worried. There will be new tires as well as several other things before we drive the car home. Don't worry. :)

Whats life without a little risk???? lol

I don't want to drive two ways. I want to fly there and drive home. The car will make it and I will have a fun story to tell.   .....or I'll drive off of a cliff and others will have a story to tell. But either way, there will be a story. haha

Jeez, Debbie Downer, way to be a wet blanket. There's a few too many what ifs, who knows and maybes in your Mr. Negative diatribe up there for the average person to swallow. Leave the guy alone and let him have a little adventure in his life. Good grief, you act like he's building an IED or firing a machine gun into the air something.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I've seen that car on the Portland and/or Seattle craigslist a few times and I actually thought about buying it myself but he had it priced at way more than $400. Looks like it will be a fun drive back home but yea, be ready to do your best Macgyver. Duct tape and bailing wire goes a long way. :2thumbs:

Awesome!

I've done this twice, once from New Jersey and once from Northern California.
Both trips were a hoot! Some of the best road time I've ever had.
I UPS a tool kit up to the seller so I'll have anything I need on the road home.
Check everything out, don't drive silly and you'll be fine! What's the worst possible outcome? You toss the car and get a plane home.

I'm glad that you are a mechanic. That makes things a little different.
I've sold some old cars, and you wouldnt believe what some people will try to do.
I've had people expect to drive rusted out parts cars cross country when they
werent even capable of putting air in the tires.

Bull, sorry if my concern for a fellow member makes me a "Debbie Downer".
