Its kinda fun educating todays youth about muscle cars.   I was just getting home last night in the Coronet, I got out and went to open the garage door, Coronet is idleing in the driveway.

Door to Door sales kid probably early 20s is making his rounds.   I was walking back to the car, he stops a goes "WOW, COOL, Nice car"

I say thanks,  "I never seen one of these before, what is it"?

Its a 69 Coronet, "Who makes it"  It was made by Dodge.

"Wow, it shakes the ground"   Yeah, it has 2 straight 3 inch pipes.

"SO does it have a powerful engine, it sounds like it?"  Its a 440, with a 850 Holley.

WOW, so it it the top engine, how much power does it have"?  Ah its just a stock 440 with Headers and that Holley, probably only 400 HP.

"Only?  HAHA, so is it the most powerful"?  No, they made a engine called the 426 Hemi, which was more sought after and could make more power.

"So how fast have you gone"?  I always seem to get this question, why does every kid think if you have a powerful car, you gotta go fast all the time?

Ah i never really take it over 75-80 on the freeway.  "Wow" Whats the most power you can get out of a 440"?   Well, to have it still behave on the street, maybe 750 or so.

"Wow, I have a Acura, with 280hp"  Didnt quite know what to say there.  Really? Nice.

"Can i see the engine"?, Sure, I pop the hood.  "OH CR@%P, Look how big it is"

"What are these worth?"   A Super Bee in great shape would probably be $50-60,000.

"Wish i could drive one"   I am thinking, thats not going to happen.

"Its probably hard to handle isnt it"?  Who do people think this? Not really, just gotta keep your foot out of it.

"Well, i gotta go, really cool car"

Its kinda funny how the import crowd, dont really have much knowledge or really care about the muscle cars, untill they actually have contact with one.  Then they are all over it.  Hopefully i converted a import driver over from the darkside.

I hear you! My special moment: at a show last year a group of ricers dudes (really nice folks but only aware only of 2004+ HondMazNissToy cars) crowded all around my Road Runner. And could not pull away. One of the pack finally came over and asked me questions.

I love to mentor the young lions and their pack. And mentor I did, all about Mopar and what the the hell is a Hemi anyway. The big mystery they had, and why the most adventureous one ventured forth, was to ask what the thing on the inside door was.  :scratchchin:

"What thing?" "The thing, you know, sort of a handle thing, chrome thing". "The door thing? Show me". He points to the window crank handle. I explained to the ricer dudes how the window operated with the mechanical handle, and demonstrated. They had never seen such a "thing". Simply did not know that windows were ever not electric. Blew them away.

It was just a wonderful moment. They were so genuinely pleased to learn what a crank is. Oh yeah, they liked the Hemi but thought the motor wasn't nearly as cool as the window crank thing. :yesnod:

Haha, nice story.

I went with some buds to a rotary meet a few weeks ago. Funny how they go from there cars to all over the charger. Buddy that brought me was like "thanks a lot". Lol.

Some of those ricers are genuinely interested. Some are asses.

The nice thing is they don't need much torque and hp to move unlike us.

I get so many laughs by the way there's that 2' of space between the radiator and the bumper. You always get "damn you could fit a honda in there"

Yeah, most of the import crowd are cool, and they really like to see the old iron and love the power.  Then there are the ones that have the attitude that their car is the only machine out there and nothing else matters..   Hey dude, where do you think the technology for your engine came from?

Reminds me of my one of my kids friends years ago when they couldn't figure out the pop out rear windows in Bee.  One of the more funny times at a show was trying to explain how the under dash 8-track worked and they thought it was sooo cool to be able to flip through 4 songs at a time.

My brother had 71 monte carlo when we were teens and I used to think that huge Radiator shroud looked funny... the radiator was closer to bumper though.

This reminds me of something I read on best of craiglist years ago... I looked for it but it appears that it's been taken off the list probably due to the political incorrectness... "Honda Wigger clown car story" It may be in out archive somewhere though.

Yeah but it's an unfair race.  The V8 has to haul the weight of a whole car and the 6cyl doesn't.   :nana:
