I got this note on my windshield

Has this ever happened to you? I had my Charger at work today. At the end of the day when I got back to the office, one of the guys tells me he saw some guy looking at my Charger, and the guy put a note on the windshield. I go get the note and it says: If you are interested in selling the Charger please call me, Scott, and he left his phone number. I am kind of flattered, and at the same time wonder how badly he may want it ($$), even though it is not for sale.

As a good Mopar friend has said, everything is for sale for the right price.   :2thumbs:   My brother in-law (passed away 5 years ago) restored a 70 RT and when we were at Mopar Nationals in 2002 a guy came up to him and said "How much?"  He said not for sale.  The guy said, well, I'm really interested in it and would offer a lot of money.  Paul took the number down and that night at dinner, asked me what to do.  I said I thought you didn't want to sell it?  He said, well I really don't but if the guy offers me a good amount, I can restore another Charger and have some money left over.  I told him to tell the guy $45k, again this was 8 years ago when his car was worth $30k probably.  The guy said ok, and Paul freaked out.  Paul decided not to take the deal, but regretted it 6 months later..... :shruggy:

Give me $75k for my 70 and it's yours!

Just smile and say thanks but no it isn't.

People with ridiculous money don't take no for an answer.

Call the guy that left the note and joke that he should have written the note on a fifty dollar bill.

We, Chuck and I, picked up my Charger at the sellers house and drove her around the corner to fill her up.
A dude in a pickup truck stopped Chuck and asked him if she was for sale and how much.

Chuck replied: ''we just bought her 5 minutes ago''  :icon_smile_big:

I love red with white striped chargers.  I got asked at a light by a guy in a nice new pick up.  I thought for a second the fun I was having cruising and being asked by a guy in a nice new pick up if I wanted to sell it and said, no thanks I think Ill keep it.  He said I'm real serious, and I said no thanks and that was that.  No regrets as I still enjoy cruising in it.

I found a note on my '69 GL replica once. I was also asked if my '71 was for sale by a guy at a stoplight years ago. I have been asked numerous times at car shows and cruise nights over the last 10-15 years if I would sell. It is bound to happen some time. Our cars are just hard to resist. :icon_smile_big:

I keep thinking about calling the guy up and see how much he is willing to pay. But, if I sell it I will have to start all over again with another Mopar. I just got this one close to the way I want it. A/C back together, all gauges work, all electrical problems fixed, exhaust done with electric cut outs, engine tuned in, most of the squeeks and rattles eraticated. Multiple coats of Zaino. Do I really want to start over?

I get asked about every 3rd time I have one of the cars out (any of them). Of course, when I want to sell one it never comes up. Oddly enough, when I had my first 68 Charger in high school (mid-80s) it was the same way.

Wow! Beautiful car. Here's how I look at it and sleep well at night. I decline all the general offers and enjoy the ride until I'm done with it. It will always be a car in demand. They just are that beautiful. Of course unless someone walks up to you and gives a cash price and is serious and it is more than you feel it's worth, drive and enjoy.

There have been several left on my cars' windshields over the years but I've never called the people who left the notes.
Only one ever bugged me and it was some dentist from Mason City, IA hinting that he could afford to restore the car and take care of it properly.  Would like to have kicked him in the 'nads. :flame: :icon_smile_big:

i had bought a 69 road runner out of dallas several years ago as i was hauling it home i had no less than three people chase me down the interstate and roll windows down asking if it was for sale, got it home called a buddy in nebraska to tell of my purchase and he says he would send a truck down to pick it up i thought he was joking a week later a semi shows up with a driver with a wad of cash and regrettably it left and went to nebraska. the guy that bought it owns a trucking cmpany and had a reefer truck making a delivery here and no load going back so it got loaded into a reefer trailer for the ride back.

Troy

Took my nephew out yesterday in the R/T. Stopped at Subway for a sandwich and had a guy try to buy it before we even got through the line. A lot of times I get asked but almost no one has money or knows what it's worth so the conversation ends rather quickly. This guy has a 70 RR already and says "I can afford it - I just can't find one". Didn't want to tell him I had extras because I've sold about all I want to sell.

Paul G - I think you should call but be honest with the guy - tell him you're not looking to sell because you just got everything done but as most other people say - everything is for sale for the right price...     who knows - if he offers you 1.5x what your investment is maybe you would be motivated to sell ---    my point is you'll always wonder until you call the guy...    I've told people that it's "not for sale" - and some drop it - but the ones who are persistant come up with some big dollars on occasion...    I was offered $18,500 for my Charger back when....     it was in its 318 / auto stage...     this was back in 2004. I said "sorry man it's my first car and i'm really not looking to sell it" - his original offer had been $10,000....

I started using basically the same strategy, When someone asks if I'll sell my 68, I tell them to come up with their best offer, and then add roughly 14k for the parts I have for it.

I dunno....ive been offered WAY more than what my car is worth....i could never sell it.....i cant afford to replace it!!!  Besides....my kids would kill me in my sleep!!!....lol

sixpack70

My friend caught people jumping my fence (in Texas, how stupid can you be :2guns: ) into my yard to look at my charger. When my friend confronted them they were trying to open the doors and they had the hood open. I keep the sixpack in my garage because I am paranoid. He told them they were idiots and why the hell were they in my yard and touching my car. They immediately told him they would buy my V code 4 spd car for 3000. He laughed at them and said it's not his and worth way more than that anyway. They said some insulting comments and left. He caught people three times. Who knows how many he didn't catch.

When I moved to El Paso I wasn't able to take my Mach 1 at first. I had it shipped a year later. The driver unloaded my car and I drove it back to post. I had three people offer to buy my car in one day!

The way I get people to walk away now is by telling them that I will sell the car for twice what it is worth. When they ask how much that is, and I tell them. They look at me like I am crazy and walk away. Problem solved.  If they really want to pay that much for one of my cars, I would definitely sell.

Not long after I got my first 68, I was in a pub having lunch admiring my newly painted Charger in the carpark as I watched a guy give the car a thorough check over, paying extra attention to the underbelly, especially around the quarters. I thought he knew Chargers, and was looking for the typical rust areas.

He left a note on the windscreen. I was a little flattered he liked my car so much. When I was finished and headed back to the car, there were a couple of other people perving over it. I picked the windscreen note off which read "You have a fuel leak". Sure enough, the fuel sender was leaking.  :slap:
"An aggressive exterior with power to match was enough to pull in the performance boys-especially when abetted by a pair of pipes blaring out the back, and brawny red-sidewall rubber hitting the pavement."
