Ok i was almost finished with my disc brake conversion. the pasenger side went on with out a hitch then the drivers side came. the bolt that connects the a-arm to the frame was spinning in its spot. its the one that has the huge washer thats offset and goes through a rubber bushing. i tried with out any luck to pull it out and then i tried to hammer it out. still nothing my last resort was the hot wrench. of course i got it out but now i need a new bolt and a rubber or nylon bushing that i destructed. my question is where do i begin to look for these items do they have a specific name?

I take it your working on the upper control arm.  Bolt kit and bushings are available from Moog, should be able to get them at about any parts store.  The bolt kit is Moog K7030, and bushing kit is Moog K408.

Napa (hopefully the links work for you):

I know this is moot now but why were you messing with those bolts? I don't know of any disc brake swap that requires the removal of the upper control arm to install it. You would have had to take the spindle off the upper ball joint to replace the spindle but not the control arm off the car. :shruggy:

jar1292

bull you are correct about the spindle but i don't have the right tools to get the spindle off with it still on the car so i resorted to taking the upper arm off heating the outside to expand it and then placing it over a piece of pipe and banging it a few times with a hammer to get the old spindle out! worked great! except as you can read when i get to a tough spot i resort to the torch! it worked and sad to say i probably did not learn my lesson. :icon_smile_big: i learned a long time ago from farm equipment that expansion and contraction with the torch will fix almost anything. now i just need to get the right parts to replace the ones that get stubborn! it will all work out in the end (hopefully) and with the great knowledge that i can get from all you guys! i know that i can rely on you guys and the expertise of your direction to get a finished product. thank you for all that you do for me and others. i wouldn't be this far with my car if it wasnt for you and our fellow addicts on this site!

Oh. I've always removed the spindle from the ball joint by shocking it with two hammers. First loosen the castle nut and unscrew it down to where it's being held on by 3-4 threads (so the spindle doesn't fall onto the floor and ding the threads when it breaks loose) and then put one hammer against the flat part of the spindle on one side of the ball joint and start smacking the flat part of the spindle on the opposite side.

BTW, I see my Napa links don't work right. Suffice to say Napa carries the cam bolts (they call them caster adjusting bolts) and upper control arm bushings. They're probably Moog even though they say Napa Chassis Parts.

No! NAPA is NOT using Moog! I bought a set for my uppers and they were CRAP! I gave them away to a friend for a "charity repair" and got Moog. The tube in the center of the bushing was miss-aligned on all 4, the steel collars were thinner and 2 were from India, 1 Mexico, 1 Pakistan or somewhere, my trusty NAPA dealer was embarrassed when I showed him the difference between his and Moog! (They wanted to refund me but I had chucked the receipt from getting them many months earlier, they are still great guys and have many good parts, just not the UCA bushings)

Interesting. :scratchchin: Well, I know many regular parts stores carry Moog parts. Just be sure what you're getting, assuming the parts guy can figure it out.

Yup! Auto Zone got them all that same afternoon, but I learned to take everything out of the box and go over it very closely right at the counter. My new Moog "Idler Arm" had the same problem as the NAPA bushings, The tube running through the center that the mounting bolt goes through was way off in a way that would have my drag link sweeping up and down as it moved. The 2nd one was fine. Check everything before you leave the store or the minute you get it in your hand.  :2thumbs:

that's funny I went to auto zone before i came on here and as sure as you all have had it happen before the parts guy had no idea what it was even for! even when i told him it was for the a-arm he said they don't have anything close to it! in which i thought it was odd but he was the expert in his store! down the street checkers said the same thing. maybe it was national dissatisfied costumer day for auto stores and no body bothered to tell me about it! I'm gunna have to go check out napa. my brothers friend is a manager for carquest and he found some in salt lake city for me at there distribution building but it was a whole new a-arm kit and i didnt need everything. thanks again for all your guys effort into this.

In my experience if the car is older than 1990 or so the parts guys have no clue. Get on autozone.com and find it yourself and then give them the part number. Yes, you have to do pretty much all the legwork yourself these days. It always baffles me that I can look up the part at home but they can't find it at the store.

Here's one to get you started: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/catalog/parts/partsShelf.jsp?displayName=Control+Arm+Bushing+-+Front&currentPage=1&categoryDisplayName=Suspension+%26+Steering&navValue=14600793&itemId=793-0&parentId=46-0

It's more like,

"Oh, wow, we can get that???? Where did you find that part number?"

"On your website."

"Really? Weird. Ok, what's it for again?"

"A 68 Charger. These bushings are all the same between 68 and 70."

"Is that for the 7.2 liter or the 6.3? Automatic or manual? Does it have air conditioning?"

"No, listen, they're all the same. I just need a bushing for the upper control arm."

"Right side or left?"

"Doesn't matter. And I need the cam bolt that goes through the bushing too."

"Is that the one bolt cam or three bolt?"

"Jeez. Nevermind."
