I haven't posted here in ages. I used to want a 68 Charger but ended up building a 71 'Cuda instead (which is almost done). Anyway, I figure I'd share my coworker's dream ride in progress. Crossposted from www.cuda-challenger.com.

Twin turbo 528(?) Hemi. Huge wheels. Pretty much custom everything. It's going to be black with black/smoked chrome.

Walk around video for my coworker:

Here's the stance.

that was a fascinating video. Really enjoyed the walkthru and looks like it will be a killer charger when it is done.

:Twocents:

Yet another complete intact car gets hacked up because a customizer wants the roof & sides of the unibody.

They should coat it with a matte clear finish and leave it just as the pic you posted. Now that would be a nice sleeper!!

Hah... I'm not sure you could call anything with those rear wheels a sleeper.

elacruze

Wonderful fabrication.

It makes me sad.

It needs a Freightliner hood ornament to go with those 22.5's out back.

I can appreciate a 18" wheel on a muscle car and some other modern days tricks left and right, but this is slightly over the edge for me....

However, if the guy is happy with it and tends to drive the crap out of it, then what else can we want?

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

Well, we could want him to have used a $500 rusted hulk for the custom, and then there would be one more complete decent 1968 Charger on the planet when he's done.

Sorry, I shouldn't be such a jerk about this.  It looks like a cool car they're building.  I'm just prone to getting on a soapbox about choices of project cars sometimes.

Darkman

At least at the end of the day it will still look like a Charger and not like that Black and Gold thing

I like the fact that he is pushing the envelope with a Charger he could be spending all that hard earned cash on a Honda, toyota etc.

I wish I had the skills that those people have,  :drool5:  I don't really understand the whole..."he's cutting a clean charger for this" or "your 68 just got a little more valuable" everyone likes something a little different... I don't see anyone making negative comments about anything about the people that restore things back to stock. Even though its not everyone's style...I hope I don't piss anyone off by this, but I'm just tired of heaing people complain about someone doing a new style build or protouring build... If you don't like it you don't have to comment.....sorry about my rant....that sort of thing just bothers me...

looking pretty rad so far!

and as for the critics, i think the wheels fit and it has a mean stance. it's not like he's blinging the car up and adding tvs, cutting up to be a monstrosity. not all cars have to look like paw paw cars back in the day.

Amazing work for sure  :o
A little to much "stance" with those rear wheels imo, but that´s my taste  ;)

Yeah, it's not my taste either to go that large, but the overall look and theme of the build is right up my alley.

My 71 Cuda is almost done, another coworker just bought a 66 Mustang, one has a 65 Mustang that will be done with a restoration in 4-5 months. He's going to be jealous of all the vintage muscle for a while. :)

Bump for an update.

It's now done. He hasn't driven it yet. First stop was the Car Craft Summer Nationals. Picked up the win for the pro builder shootout.

I hear he has 10k hours into the car.

Not sure when he takes delivery, but I think it's fairly soon. He's going to let me know when he's going to bring it by so I can take the 'Cuda in and we can snap a few group photos that day.

My other coworkers with the Mustangs. One wants to sell, the other getting the restoration is still waiting on his to be done. My restoration was finally "complete" in Sep 2012.

Proof that things take a LOT longer than expected.

Good on him, what a long, costly and technical build.
Hope he tears the hell out of the highway with it.

If he doesn't, I'll just tell him my 'Cuda is faster in order to goad him into bringing it out.  :nana:

Is it bad that my favorite thing on the whole car was the custom stitch door uppers/lowers and the center console?

I thought it was strange that in the video, MCR appears to to be talking to someone who knows little about cars...explaining what a wastegate is and blowoff valve :shruggy: Is your co worker just a check book builder who just wants something but knows nothing about how it works? If he does know cars, I would be annoyed that MCR was talking to me like I was a dumba$$.
What was I thinking?
