I have a 68 RT and it has the chrome thumb buttons however I thought in 68 they were supposed to be black plastic. The cars SPD was Dec 01 of 67. Did cars before Jan 01/68 have chrome or plastic ?

I thought that 1968 had black plastic and 1969 had chrome buttons. My very original 1967 GTX had chrome, my Charger (S.P.D dec of 67) has chrome but not sure if original door handles and my very original 68 RT (SPD of april 24/68) has black plastic. Yet, you have plastic on a 69 and I have chrome on a 68. I wonder what the transition dates were for the early produced cars ?

66 and 67 "B" body cars have chrome buttons, but keep in mind they are a different handle.  Back is flat not angled like 68 - 76.

My 69 has a SPD of 13 January 69 and has black buttons.

Your '68 should have black buttons...... My former LL1 '68 Hemi Charger R/T had black originals. Instead of getting NOS door handles, I rechromed my originals and they came out perfect.........

All 68's and 69's up to sometime in January 69 had black buttons. The over the counter replacements were chrome as well as the ones you can still buy unless they are really old NOS.

Troy, there are only two so you must of had the auto. what was the SPD of your LL1 car.

ODZKing

Unless the buttons are really shot, you could get the new handles and use your old black buttons.

Found a third some time ago out of the Northwest, LL1 with white interior like mine, auto......... Yours must be the black interior 4-speed? My SPD was 228 (Feb 22nd, '68). I have a picture of the project LL1 Hemi somewhere.. I'll check when I get home.........

Here's an outer door handle question. Will the handles off from a 74 Valiant fit my 69 Charger. I know the mechanism might be different but I can swap that out. I am talking about the cast handle itself. I have heard some people say there is an angle issue in the way it mates up to the door skin, sometimes leaving a gap even though the door handle is fully tightened.  My Charger door handles are not the greatest. The Valiant door handles are very nice with no pitting or checking so I'm hoping I can use them? Anybody had any experience with this swap?

The bugle sounds the charge begins. But on this battlefield no one wins.
