:'(  Sad thing for the hobby.  Hope that's not a thing to come.  I bought thousands from them back in the day.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

WOW

Interesting that nothing is mentioned on the web site.

Maybe they are converting to a web only company or downsizing to a smaller building?

Somehow I don't think we have heard that last from this company.

Brock Lee

Whatever they are doing, they are not talking about it. The employees had no idea until they came to work and couldn't get in. The town government doesn't know what is going on, and they are entitled to such information. It very well could be a deal where they themselves are unsure what they are going to do. But you can bet they will have to figure it out fast now that it has been published in the paper.

Mike DC

I'll say it again:

Oh, great.  Year One has lost it main competitior.

Main competitor as in whose prices can be set highest? I try to do all my shopping at megaparts since they are very fair with shipping charges and the prices are average.

I am extremely pleased with Mega. Great service, very good (for the items I've needed) pricing, no screwing on the shipping. :2thumbs:

Looks like a hell of an opportunity for someone.

I'm not saying the Paddock was the best place out there.  I just hate to lose anybody that was helping hold down Year One's prices in any way shape or form.

ODZKing

It's sad.  I hate to see any supplier of classic parts go under.  Now the questions, where will all that inventory go?

41husk

Competition always helps keep prices down.  I have not ordered from the paddock in years.  I had found there prices to be very competative.  I felt they made the big profits on shipping and handeling and items that did not apply to discounts.  Several times I would make big orders to try to get the $100 off orders over $1000 (10%), only to be told certain items did not apply.  Then when you just need the $10 item, you order only to find shipping and handeling is $20.

Yeah, I guess it's a drag seeing any parts business go down.

Todd Wilson

Sign of the times..............when the economy is down and unemployment is up.....the cost of day to day items required for living have gone way way up  the toys and hobbys lose the extra $$$$ because there isnt any. I would imagine their business was way down as people dont have extra cash to put into a project car right now.

Now the questions, where will all that inventory go?

From what I saw these past few years, they didn't have much of an inventory. They were drop shipping most everything. It was becoming harder and harder to go there and walk out with what I needed. I didn't care for a while as walking in and buying saved shipping. But the past year they changed that and you had to pay shipping just like you ordered it online.

Ghoste

Maybe it's the wrong attitude, but my own personal perspective on it is this;
They were never really Mopar people anyway, they just kind of Johnny-come-lately'ed onto Mopars when we suffered the first big price explosion back some time ago.  Before that they only wanted to deal in Mustangs and Camaros IIRC.  They were just a warehouse, they didn't actually make anything so the important thing is that (for now) it's just a middleman that has suffered, not the inventive folks who have been stepping up and getting parts reproduced for us.
I know this doesn't help the people who will lose their jobs with the Paddock and I hope they are able to bounce back instantly.

TX9AAR

I just ordered a couple of things from them on Saturday. The parts were "back ordered" I guess I will have to cancel my order.

I only ordered from them once. They sent the wrong item. I sent it back and never ordered from them again. With all the competition out there, vendors can't afford to get a first-time customer's order wrong. Long-time customers might forgive an occasional slip-up, which I've done with other vendors where I've placed multiple orders.

Neal_J

Didn't we hash this out (are they open/not) previously?  Like a month or two ago.

Oh well, sounds like they're toast now.

Damn, I too regret that the Anti-Christ (YO) has buried its largest competitor.

thats weird i just called them,  they had their number going and for ordering service it was open. the 1 800 number

Looks like they will be auctioning the remaining inventory if anyone is from the area. Maybe some good deals will be found.

Saw some of their cars at the Mecum auction. I'll have to attend, they are pretty close.

ChgrSteve67

Brock Lee

It is obvious looking at that auction site what is going on. They are leaving all that stuff up and running so the name and such is valuable. If they shut it down, thousands of people would remove it from their favorites and the web search engines would treat it as new. So they are buying time. But as of now, The Paddock is gone. Maybe someone will buy the name and it will be a new company with an old name.

QuoteKey Auctioneers Senior Vice President Tim Boeglin said the company's intellectual property was garnering a high degree of interest. Included in the intellectual property are the company's name and trademarks, million-name customer list, websites, catalogs, and phone numbers.

THE STIG

wow this is an old thread, but I just learned I was gonna be bummed because they're close enough that I could drive there pick up and save on shipping but I guess that was'nt an option anyway. I just hope thier layed off staff can find new employment.

Brock Lee

If you look around, it goes even farther back. I first posted after a guy I knew that worked there showed up and there were police and lawyers in the parking lot and the door were locked.

No worries Burger King Diamond, them being an advantage as we would save shipping was gone two or so years ago.

I intended to go to the auction but got tied up with somthing else. A dude I work with went and he said I didn't miss much.

Ghoste

I'm not too surprised, they were really just a middleman so I don't think they stocked any more product than they absolutely had to.  I would think the auction would be office equipment and shelves and only as many car parts that were still in warehouse unsold (and as said, my guess is few).

Yes, they were a middleman, but up until a couple years ago they had a very extensive in stock inventory. Every catalog item was stocked there. Maybe just a couple while they drop shipped mail order, but they certainly kept an onhand inventory for local sales. That changed and probably helped do them in.
