This post is for all those who enjoy paperwork and the history it details. Since we are dealing with history, I’ll start with a little background first.

Back around 1980 I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to purchase my 71 440-6 Charger R/T. At the time of purchase I had no real appreciation for the name Grand-Spaulding Dodge. I just knew the car was special for what it was regardless of the “Dyno Tuned” sticker in the rear window or the dealer sticker on the trunk with the funny looking ram’s head. The car was in very poor shape at the time, just all torn up with one foot in the grave. The only thing that saved it was that it had all the “goodies” still on it and it was fairly solid. After some time I got her back on the road (sometime in the mid 80’s) and I came to appreciate the history of Mr. Norm and Grand-Spaulding Dodge, which made the car a little more special. Sometime in the mid 90’s, I spotted an advertisement regarding the sale of original paperwork from Mr. Norm’s. After responding to the ad by sending the car’s info to the seller (his name escapes my memory) I found out that he had a complete inventory of paperwork for the car!   What follows are copies of some of the paperwork (the more interesting stuff).

In the interest of saving bandwidth for those who have dial-up, I will post links to the documents instead of limiting the size to something that can not be read. I hope you guys enjoy this, not everybody gets to see the dealer documentation on their cars, so I feel VERY fortunate in owning both the car I do and it’s history.

First up is the original window sticker. As you can imagine, I was very surprised to see this included in the documentation

This is the order sheet the dealer used to work up the car back in July 70. Apparently the car was ordered for dealer stock. Notice he tried to order color keyed bumpers w/hidden headlights as well as some other goodies. I’m not sure what the penciled in notes that state “not on S.O.” mean, but think that meant not on stock order.

This is the Advance Dealer Shipping Notice, confirming the options and shipping date as well as the weight of the vehicle.

This is the 3 x 5 card that the salesman kept with the stock number and various options. What is interesting are the notes regarding the cost and final sale price of the car, with the net profit on the sale.

This is the envelope all the paperwork was kept in. Everything was there including all the financial paperwork.

I hope you guys enjoyed it. I am so amazed every time I look at this stuff. I can’t tell you how much appreciation I have for being the guardian of such a special piece of history! The car is currently undergoing a real restoration, and will be correct in every way. I will post updates on the progress in the future as work moves along. Mopar to Ya!!!!!

Great stuff Doug!
Definately important documents to have with such a special car.     I am 100% for your decision to go back to original.   No doubt the car will be as stunning as your Hemi 69

On my registry site, I have some original paperwork for a 69 Hemi Charger on there as well..

That is cool!!!!! I noticed that it shipped the day befor mine! Even the signatures are the same. That is sooooo cool! It is also 4 stock numbers from mine (6230 and 6234)! I wonder if they were side by side at the dealership? What a picture that would make! It looks like they were ordered on the same day, by the same person. Both cars were ordered on 7/7/70!

Chris G.

WOW  Great paperwork on both cars. I wish I had stuff like that.

Doug, I can't wait to see that car done. Maybe Carlisle next year? Give me a call when she gets home. I would love to get some pics of her. :2thumbs:

Well what I have been told is that Mr Norms ordered ten '71's Super Bees (440-6pk and Hemi's). I know the guy who got this Hemi Bee new. At that time he said he (Mr Norm) had 3 Hemi Bee's on the lot and one 440-6pk. I have seen  2 of the Hemis and one of the 6pk. This is invoice of the 6pk:

One other thing is, Mr Norms put the Eng call out sticker over the front fender side marker lights, like the Plymouth Road Runners. Odd, but Both the Hemis guys said that that is how they came.

Doug, may I ask what you paid for the car back in 1980??

Sure, I paid the tidy sum of $600.00 for the car. Don't forget, that was when these things were still just hot rods. The car was barely 10 years old and was beat to death. The first part of it's life was very hard on it. No one could have predicted the upward movement of todays prices back then. I'd still love the car for what it is regardless of todays market. After all that's why I bought it in the first place! :icon_smile_big:

Johnnybee,
I don't know about the CID call outs. When I bought the car back in 80, it had the original paint on it and it didn't have engine CID decals on the fender. It did have "air grabber" call outs on the top of the scoop like you see on the Plymouth models. I don't know if that was factory or added by the dealership/ original owner, but I intend to put those on again.

Chris,
I'll drop you a line when she comes home! I'll probably need some "pushers" to get her back into the garage anyway (LOL).

Doug,

Those are some great docs to have for your car!  I only wish I could come up with stuff like that for mine.  I'm just glad G-S decided to keep all that paperwork, since it's the most unique thing about any car apart from the title.

Awsome paper work trail. Very interesting stuff. I think that a lot of people on here wish that they had that kind of a paper work documenting their cars. I know I sure wish I did.

Ghoste

That is just awesome.  Who would have ever imagined that all this stuff would become such a big deal to us this many years later?

Cool story!

Doug,

I just stumbled across this thread. I know it's old, & the links to your documents in the original post don't work anymore. As a '71 R/T enthusiast, I'd LOVE to see these documents. The fact that you were able to get them is very cool. Could you possibly post them again or email them? I'll send a pm too.
