So i picked up the cluster and frame the other day.  My friend says everything worked.  To check , can i just ground it and put 12 volts to the pin and see if the gauges work?

What would the best way to clean the frame up, take it to have it media blasted and primered, and just take the cluster apart and clean it all.

Best cleaning liquid???

If it's anything like a third gen gauge, and it probably is, I would not put a full 12 volts to any of those electric gauges.  :Twocents:

If you can't take his word for them working or remove them again later if they don't, I'd use something like a four or five volt battery and certainly not hold it on long - i.e., don't spike the gauge. I think that would leave you safe, but no guarantees from me! Also, are you using all new sending units? The fuel sending unit will likely need to be calibrated...

As far as cleaning up the dash frame, that one looks kind of crusty. For cleaning things I've always had pretty good luck with Simple Green. As for cleaning and repainting yours, I'd either go media blast or get busy with that wire brush, then a good primer and a nice satin black paint.

Thanks Tricky.  i trust him, known him for a few months,  he joined Mopars Unlimiteda few weeks after i did, so i know where to find him, lol.  I may see if i can take the voltage limiter out and put it in my cluster and see if it will make my gauges work.

No biggie if these gauges dont work, there are plenty of rallye dash replacement parts out there.

The cluster that you have pictured is for a 1970 B-body.The correct one for a 69 should have the 4-way flasher switch on the cluster located next to the red brake lamp lite.70's are on the steering column. John.

Mike, (lilwendal) is without a doubt THE master when it comes to cluster restoration. I haven't seen him on in a long time... I wonder how he's coming along with his 'Cuda.
